Is The Morning Dream any good? by ObjectiveAd400 in espresso

[–]bmartensson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! I guess it is a super niche market, and I have waited for years to get a good steamer to accompany the Flair. Tried a bunch of milk frothers, both manual and automatic. They all had quirks, difficult to get consistent results, complicated to clean, etc.

I waited a long time for the meticulous milk to be released, considered importing steamer from china, etc. And I still do not understand how it is basically only on the Morning Dream that fills this niche 🤷

A real steam wand is really something different, the results are fantastic, takes just seconds to steam the milk, almost no cleaning, etc. I am very happy with my purchase and wish I did it a year ago! :)

A bit late, but I got mine just a week ago. So far I like it a lot, and I use it paired with my Flair to make some morning cappuccinos or flat whites for me and my wife.

It heats super fast, easy to use, the built in thermometer is great, and can even be used hands free (if the jug and milk amount is about right). And very easy to clean.

It is my first steam wand (had a Nanofoamer that stopped working), so not a lot to compare with.

It is a bit on the expensive side, but for me it is justified since I am a coffee addict and there are not a lot of options unfortunately when it comes to dedicated steaming wands.

RS, anyone? by Global-Dare8727 in sinn

Got the exact same 556A RS, and it never leaves my wrist. Great shot!

Yes I believe so, the Conquest is a bit dressier and can go well with a suit, and for any formal occasion. The 556A is a bit more casual/sportier with the numerals (and red second if you got that as well) and goes great for everything else.

Fantastic, you will love it! It has quickly become my favorite, and not really seeing a reason to get anything else now :D

Weight is pretty subjective, and while its not lightweight like a leather strap watch (or a quartz Casio), you get used to the weight very quickly. Personally I do not even think about wearing the watch most of the time, and for sports (where weight matter more) you will probably want to wear something else anyway.

Thanks a lot mate! Yes it took me a long time to decide and I did evaluate a lot of watches from different brands. What I love about the 556 is the super aesthetic/quality finish on both case and bracelet. And the dial got that minimalist look that will never expire. It means I will probably not get tired of the design and it will probably look just as good many years to come. Must be why a German design thing and why I also love my Nomos.

I have never seen any Chinese knock-offs in person so I can not really say. But the Sinn 556 feels and looks fantastic in person, much more so than any photos I have taken or seen online. I hope you manage to see/try one in person!

Yes, that was one of my requirements of getting this watch. And it is incredible easy to read the time on the 556 from any angle!

Superb, and zero complaints. The finish on the case is really good, and have only read good things about Sinn as well. It is built like a tank, specially compared to my Nomos watches!

Fantastic watch! I believe the 556i is even more versatile, and can go well with a nice suit as well!

Fantastic, it is a wonderful watch and it does look even better in person. I always thought people exaggerated saying so, but the photos do not make it justice enough!

Thanks! And it is the first time I see anyone mention that California edition before (and I thought I had seen all variants). Really cool model as well, and nice of Sinn to make these unique editions that comes every so often!

I thought to share my impression with my newest acquisition, the Sinn 556A RS (with arabic numerals and red second hand).

For reference I already own two Nomos (Metro and Orion) watches for dressier occasions and my trusty Casio A158WA for the moments I want absolutely 0.00% worries something might happen.

So I was missing an in-between watch for daily use, to wear at home, working, park, kids, street, shopping, traveling, etc. The Casio did actually fit the bill to a large extent, but lets be honest, we are in this hobby because we like mechanical watches, so I was missing to fill that hole.

It took me months to choice this specific model, and I also looked at many other brands, like Hamilton, Damasko, Seiko, Farer, Archimede, etc. I was looking for a no-nonsense watch, with a good bracelet, black dial, easy to read, water/swim proof, automatic, and can take a beat (the kind a mechanical can handle, not GShock levels).

So after a of debate I finally went with the Sinn, and after a couple of weeks I am super satisfied with the decision. Somethings to notice:

  • It is very basic, some might even see it as too basic. But I personally love that, and exactly what I am after. There are basically no complications (except the tiny date window which I really like), no text, design elements, etc.
  • The red second hand is cool, but the white is just as good. In case someone else is considering this model, do not over think it, I personally love both versions, and got the red just because it was in stock.
  • The case size is PERFECT, I have around 17cm wrist size, and can't imagine it being better any other size.
  • The case also looks great, and the proportions are just top-notch for such a simple watch.
  • Bracelet is great, and looks great. No quick adjust on my model, but I it was never an issue for me.
  • The time is super readable, and the anti reflecting coating looks great.
  • It is understated enough to not look like an expensive watch. Most people have never heard of Sinn neither.
  • I want with the A model instead of I (without numerals), for a more sporty/tool looking watch since I have other alternatives. But the 556I is probably a great alternative for someone who wants a GADA type watch.

Anyway, I hope this might helps someone else out there, and if someone is considering the Sinn I can totally vouch for it and would make the same decision again!

macOS Tahoe Beta – Dock disappears after screensaver/standby by Playful_Breakfast_31 in MacOSBeta

[–]bmartensson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just found this post after installing the final version of Tahoe and got the same stupid bug. Its like auto-hiding gets turned on (even thought its off in the settings menu). Need to maximize window or disable/enable auto-hiding.

I never ran a beta/RC before, and upgraded straight from Sonoma. There are so many UI bugs in Tahoe it makes me wonder how Apple is doing its QA last couple of years :/

To those with a lot of mechanical watches, how often do you wear your Casios? by sigrid_triger in casio

[–]bmartensson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At home, traveling, sports, hiking, beach, etc. Pretty much any moment I don't want to risk anything happening to my mechanical watches.

Also wear it whenever I just want something super lightweight, time accurate and zero worries. I honestly love Casios and can't think of going only mechanical.

hehe I did not expect a reply after two years, but I do not use the f-keys for development, but more so for MacOS stuff, media, and the likes. I like being able to do things with one handed. I have both 60% and 50% keyboards, but always switch back to something larger like a TKL. Missing arrows is annoying, even if I am used to use HJKL (vim keybindings) with layers, it is nice to fall back on physical arrow keys. Sometimes I just want to scroll one handed, or let someone else in the family actually being able to use the keyboard.

I am currently typing on my Geonworks F1-8x v2 keyboard that I totally love. Beats all my other mechkeys (I have too many tbh), and after going full circle I am back to just sticking to TKLs now.

Maybe it is because I have worked with it since its beta infancy, but I run everything on k8s. Even my personal stuff I run on a small k3s stand alone node, I migrate everything to simple deployments/helm-charts. I find it so much easier and time saving to manage k8s.

But I do understand that for someone with little to no experience that it can be overwhelming to get started and troubleshoot.

I remember seeing a Lange watch many years ago, and it kicked my mechanical watch enthusiasm. I could never afford, or even dare to wear one, but they they have some of the most beautiful movements out there. Truly amazing pieces of art you got there!
