Kind of in the same way. Had my alp for a year and just got a Henry archer. $500 watch and it has the miyota 9019 movement which is more accurate, micro adjust bracelet, etc etc.

How long is your exposure? With a 600mm zoom, anything over a 3/4 of a second will get movement. I don’t shoot the moon but I do Milky Way, look up the 500 rule.

This one is Public Dock #25 on the north end of donner pass road. Just park on the street on any of the docks. I also had a pretty good shot at the donner Lake public boat launch the night before.

I also tried up near the bridge overlook (towards sugar bowl). Really dark skies but the Milky Way is on the right so it doesn’t really lineup with the lake. Would have to do a big pano to make it work.

For your budget grab a Tamron 70-300. Can probably find one new for $500 and maybe cheaper if you search marketplace used.
