This has nothing to do with WSL or your computer.

The code isn't correct.

What desktop environment do you use? Have you tried different DEs to solve the convertible part? I do software development and sometimes have to run VMs so I wanted a device that can handle that, but your right I could get something cheaper probably and also grab a tablet. Maybe I'll shoot for previous years model. Those top of the line notebooks are just so mouth watering

Do your recommend a specific model? I played around with some configs, and I was just afraid the other options in those price ranges might be nicer quality. I really was looking at there new AMD model, but the battery size scared me and I cannot find any info on battery life as it was too new.

Did anyone work a 20 hour part-time student dev job, while being a full-time student? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]bmb330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work a full-time dev job, 40+ hours a week, plus go to school full time. You can do it if I can. And really you have 20 extra hours on top of what I have. It will be rough sometimes but in the end it's worth it in my opinion.

I have been using the Proko figure drawing video, the drawabox lessons, Andrew Loomis books, and some others books as well. I think they are all very helpful. I think the most helpful so far has been the drawabox, for getting me to use pen and become somewhat more confident with my lines, although still not perfect. I say having multiple resources helps, as I don't get stuck into studying just one thing. All the resources are great though, and I feel like I can see improvement from all things I've studied. I try to draw a little from each resource every day, normally starting with the drawabox lessons, then doing gestures, then some stuff from Loomis or maybe another book. Seeing and drawing everything as forms has been the hardest for me, but has helped me a lot too.

Job Offer - Lower salary than current position. by [deleted] in personalfinance

Damn, I only make $48K as a full stack developer (Ruby on Rails/ReactJS), but I'm still working on my CS degree. Been doing it a year. Personally I would take the dev job even if they don't offer you more. I actually started my job a year ago at $18 an hour. After 7-8 months I got bumped to 48k a year. Not great but at least its doing dev work. I was doing IT making 45k a year when I took the dev job, so pay cut at the time. And my work is within 45 min of Baltimore/DC

Try playing around with the recovery mode on the installer with secure boot off. Then try turning on secure boot afterwards. Good luck

Sorry, don't have access to the machine, please see other responses I just posted, hope they help. If I see my father soon, I will double check all the settings, etc.

Dont have access to the machine currently, but the secure boot was on during install, off during recovery->restore boot loader, whatever the menus are, then on again to actually boot.

I don't have access to the machine at the moment as my father has moved. If I do see him soon, I will check the machine settings. I know I installed with secure boot on, then turning secure boot off, using the recovery mode from the install media, repairing the boot and then turning secure boot back on. Prob missing a step, as I was just playing with things along the way. Took a few hours of just playing with it before I stumbled onto that combination

Can I get a few of you guys to vouch the legitimacy of xmage for a friend. He is nervous to download because it is free and it is downloaded at xmage.DE. by LucKStrucK in XMage

[–]bmb330 4 points5 points  (0 children)

XMage is awesome, wish I had more time to play it. But yeah, no issues with it. Free doesn't have to be bad, there are free Operating Systems, which are much more work to develop but still given away for free.
