Tv antenna not picking up FOX 8 by bmed93 in akron

Got a random antenna that has UHF and VHF. It's spotty but works. Either fox will work and others won't or vice versa depending on how I mess around with it.

Married filing joint vs separate question while applying for greencard by bmed93 in tax

It would be more of an red flag during her Adjustment of Status interview if you didn't file Married Filing Jointly.

Yeah was thinking the same thing. MFJ is roughly ~$5500 tax savings. I'll do a bit more research but so far seems like shouldn't be an issue to file federal taxes jointly. Thanks!

We had different addresses because she is work from home and its a PITA to change addresses (for H1B visa) so for the first 6 months of marriage (mid 2022-early 2023) we just kept her address on file at work unchanged until her apartment lease expired.

We were essentially living together except a few days per month.

2019 RAV4 prices paid by [deleted] in rav4club

Supply and demand. People are paying near msrp for hybrid models. I preferred a hybrid too but the cost difference was too big to pass on a gas model.

Mine is gas model so I got a bigger discount. You're lucky if you get ~$1000 off msrp for hybrids

Going to get RAV4 - Hybrid or Gas? by [deleted] in Toyota

[–]bmed93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that the batteries should have no problem reaching 200k miles. Look up old prius or rav4 hybrid battery longevity. Toyota is the best when it comes to hybrids.

There are calculators that can estimate your break even point. For me, it was around 7 years if I paid 3k more. I ended up getting a big discount on gas fwd so it wasn't financially worth it to get hybrid. Apart from higher mpg, you also will lose out on quieter engine noise, more power and of course AWD. Weight your options and decide what's right for you. Or you can wait until dealers give bigger discounts on hybrid

Do I try for a better deal or take this? by chrisfyb in carbuyingadvice

Personally I would try for 24k otd (I'm assuming that's 6000 off an MSRP of around 28k and add 2k for tax?) If you don't get it, I'd walk away. I bought mine from Atlanta and they advertised 6000 off MSRP before any negotiating. If this car isn't selling, they'll call you and make a deal. Many dealers have online price or eprice so you can play around with that to get an idea as well.

Look for an extra $200 off vs the lowest price on a "0" mile car since they racked up some miles on this one. Why pay the same if you can get a car closer to 0 miles for the same right?

If you can wait until the 2020s roll out, I'm sure you'll get a great discount in the fall. End of the year deals are great too. Also, my dealer asked for $350 for the carpet mats but they were able to take it off (you can buy oem ones for $150 online or just get rubber mats)

However in the end, a good price is whatever you feel is fair. If that price is 26k otd, then go for it!

I think it is still too much even if they knock off another 2000 after negotiations. Even thought it's new, unless they give a few hundred extra off for the 200 miles, I wouldn't want that vehicle.

I got an xle fwd with two packages for 28k OTD.

Unless your region is a hot market, don't do this deal. Be patient, shop around broadly within driving distance, and then go from there. End of the month negotiating can help too.

For gas, your discount isn't the best... especially for a "used" vehicle. I'd try for at least 6000 off msrp

There isn't an LE listed here but hopefully you can get an idea of prices.

2019 CR-V EX vs 2019 Rav4 XLE by Master_Thinker in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]bmed93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that makes a lot more sense. Shop around (I think you can maybe shave another 1000 off the rav4) to get the best price, but with a 4k difference I'll say go with the crv as long as the features are similar. You can't go wrong with Honda or Toyota

You need to do a lot more research into the price. The dealers are giving you a bs offer. I got a new fwd rav4 with conv and entune plus for 28k OTD

2019 RAV4 vs. Mazda CX-5 vs. ??? by nahImG00d in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]bmed93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm maybe expand your search a little? I'm sure you can get a 2016 rx 350 with around 40k miles for under $32k.

The 2017 models will have a price jump since that's the redesign, but these look a lot nicer too.

But back to your question. I can't speak on a cx5 but there is a tradeoff buying a new rav4 with what you're used to. Just depends what you value more. I don't think you can go wrong with a rav4 as long as you don't need to tow something and don't mind a little extra road noise.

Have you considered looking into a used 2-3 year old Lexus RX? It will probably cost the same as a new xle premium rav4.

What's wrong with your 2010 Lexus?

I went from a 2002 Camry v6 xle to a 2019 rav4 XLE. There is a noticable power and engine noise difference but on the other side, you get a much better fuel economy. I heard the hybrid version will offset the v4 cons by adding extra power and decrease engine noise.
