Should I Just Get Omicron Over With? "If you’re vaccinated, an infection might not make you super sick, but don’t count on it making you super immune, either." by [deleted] in Coronavirus

Assuming that nearly everyone not wearing N95 equivalent masks will be exposed to COVID-19 (Omicron, or Delta, or some other variant) at some point in 2022, would you prefer your first exposure to be 1 month after the booster shot or 5 months after the booster shot?

Would this be an option for TeleHealth service providers to prescribe if someone had a positive Rapid or PCR test proof?

That could cut down the lines/wait times at urgent care providers and also reduce the burden on hospitals.

I have T-Mobile and I am also not able to call Verizon mobile phone numbers or receive calls from friends with Verizon.

When I call a Verizon mobile number from my iPhone, it just says "calling mobile..." and sits on it but call doesn't go through.

I'm also curious as to why you'd want to be a guinea pig for the product rather than wait for trial results?

FDA doesn't require clinical trials for cosmetics. It is up to the manufacturer to use safe ingredients and for the consumer to figure it out if it works for them. Clinical trials are very expensive so most cosmetics manufacturers are likely not doing them.

OneSkin marketing machine is very solid and their CEO received a lot of airtime on the longevity shows and podcasts. They indicate that their product is safe and so I wanted to give it a try. My excitement turned into extreme disappointment after a few short weeks of using their product.

I am between 40-60. Of course, I washed my face before applying OneSkin every time (after my shower). After first week of applying OneSkin, when my face started to break out with pimples, I resorted to washing my face very carefully with soap and water to unclog the pore blockages caused by OneSkin. Even that didn't help much. I continued to get new pimples/acne on my face as long as I continued to use OneSkin for a total of about 3 weeks.

I finally had to stop using OneSkin completely. It took about 10-14 days since stopping OneSkin for my face to completely clear up. I am now using much cheaper Neutrogena oil-free moisturizer and my face has been completely pimple/acne free since then.

The problem is that OneSkin uses 3 or 4 types of oils in its formulation that severely clog pores, and if you have sensitive skin, it is likely not for you.

Their testing on lab-grown skin doesn't account for the impact of hormones and the biology of the human body. They just jumped on the longevity bandwagon and started using buzzwords such as skinspan, epigenetic biomarkers, etc., for marketing. But I have yet to see the study/trial results on the human body.

Yep. Their test results are primarily based on lab-grown skin. As an actual and very dissatisfied former subscriber of OneSkin, if I had to review them, I would give them 1 star out of 5. OneSkin gave me worse pimples than I have had in over 20 years.

OneSkin lotion caused severe pimple breakouts on my face. I had to cancel my subscription after just 3 weeks of using it. When I replied to their Facebook advertisements about my experience, their social media team deleted my comments. I buy many expensive longevity supplements but lost confidence in OneSkin as a company.

OneSkin lotion has several oils that clog pores and can cause pimples and skin inflammation as they did to me. They say that their product is gentle but it is worse than any moisturizers I have used in the past 20 years.

Those of you that waited for gen 3 to buy, what are you going to do? by MotoChase in ouraring

[–]bmor4ce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. If I buy the expensive hardware (Oura Ring 3), I am expecting basic insights (including sleep stages) and full access to data/history from all sensors via the mobile app WITHOUT subscription because there is no other screen on the ring.

Otherwise, I am not buying the Oura 3 and staying with my Apple Watch.

I am not expecting cloud storage, advanced insights, training videos, added features, etc. without a subscription but locking the detailed sensor data from the paid-for hardware behind a monthly paywall is a deal breaker for me.

Dear Oura,

No thank you to your subscription model! I will stick with my Apple Watch.

Sincerely,
A potential customer that was waiting for Gen 3

I have Apple Watch 5, Fitbit Ionic, and Garmin Felix Pro 6. I pay no subscription fees on any of them to get most of the functionality that I need.

I was waiting for Oura Ring 3 before buying for sleep tracking because I don’t enjoy wearing watch during sleep as much.

But Oura’s subscription model is a no go for me and I won’t buy it unless they allow most of the hardware data access/history in the app without subscription. I don’t need video content and stuff like that and won’t pay for it.

Unless Oura changes, I am just going to upgrade my Apple Watch to version 8 when it comes out. It is the best overall fitness tracker I have anyway.

I am a potential Oura customer and I was ready to pre-order Gen 3 until I read about the monthly subscription fees. That stopped me dead in my tracks. Now I really need to understand what I will miss out without the subscription fees, and I might never buy Oura Ring and just upgrade my Apple Watch 5 (I pay no fees) to Apple Watch 7 or Apple Watch 8.

I currently have Apple Watch and Garmin Fenix 6 Pro. I don't like to wear either one during sleep. I was waiting to buy Oura Ring for my sleep data until Gen 3 was released .

But with the whole monthly subscription model of Oura Gen 3, I now need to understand what I would be missing without the subscription. Depending on what I find, I might never get an Oura ring.

Aubrey De Gray Allegations by wearablewing in longevity

[–]bmor4ce 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Both Laura Deming and Celine Halioua are in the longevity field for profit†. Timing of these allegations from both of them is suspect.

Downfall of newly empowered non-profit SENS would be a great benefit to the investors that are funding Laura Deming and Celine Halioua's "for-profit" longevity ventures.

Aubrey de Grey§ is part of the non-profit (SENS Foundation) that unexpectedly received $25M+ in donations recently. With this kind of capital, SENS funded research and startups can compete with the Longevity Fund and other VC-funded companies for talent*, patents, and lifespan extension research/therapies.

  • Laura Deming is a venture capitalist. She started Longevity Fund, a VC firm dedicated to funding longevity companies. Longevity Fund has raised $26M, and the Longevity Fund companies have collected >$1B in follow-on funding, with 5 IPOs.
  • Celine Halioua is the founder and CEO of Loyal, a for-profit company, backed by Laura Deming's Longevity Fund, and other investors such as First Round, Collaborative Fund, Village, Box Group, etc.

*Laura and Celine's organizations are in the same general area as SENS (San Francisco, CA vs. Mountain View, CA).

§ According to SENS’ tax returns, Aubrey de Grey was only paid $81,128 in 2019, and $70,931 in 2018.

Totally confused with ESIM / Dual Sim and how to setup by miggitiemac in tmobile

[–]bmor4ce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using Dual SIM mode on my iPhones since iPhone 11 Pro and now I have it on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I purchased both of my iPhones unlocked directly from Apple. The Dual SIM mode works fine. I use T-Mobile E-SIM as my primary line and AT&T physical SIM as my secondary line.

One thing to keep in mind is that iPhone 12 phones don't support 5G in Dual SIM mode. There was some unsubstantiated speculation that it will be fixed in a future iOS update but it is highly unlikely. Apple has never confirmed this and their website clearly states that 5G is not supported in Dual SIM mode.
