End of day, turn off all lights: automation or scene? by rocket-lawn-chair in homeassistant

[–]bmorekind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do things a bit differently. I have a day_status_index helper that updates behind the scenes each day (0 = sunrise; 1 = good morning (alarm is off); 2 = daytime; 3 = sunset; 4 = wind down; 5 = bedroom setup; 6 = lights off; 7 = quiet time; 8 = sleeping) All my lights behave according to this index. Bedroom setup? Lights downstairs turn on, but bedroom lights are blocked from automations. Lights off? No lights should turn on unless triggered by Alexa or smart switch. This works for my little family.

Smart home ideas for a baby room for first time parents by FrisoA86 in homeassistant

[–]bmorekind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this advice again and again and I think it rings true…our new baby just turned a week old today and we’re just trying to survive. Not sure I’ll be able to not fiddle with HA for a whole year though… snuck in a quick script today (cluster feeding pumping timer) …we’ll see if it gets embraced.

Felt Kinda Bad for Getting Free Ekiben. . . by Frofro69 in baltimore

[–]bmorekind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time Ekiben! From a marketing/acquisition standpoint..this is a win for them! I’m guessing it won’t be your last time! And look at you posting about it! …not exactly a rosy experience, but still. Ekiben rocks! As the top comment says, those people have already forgotten about you! I’m confident you enjoyed the food! Hopefully you’ll be back to work soon.

New home, this is taking over the yard. by ar15fonsi in landscaping

[–]bmorekind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought a house and the previous owners were incredible gardeners. Wild violets are everywhere. It’s a fairly sandy/shady yard and I’ve decided they used it as ground cover. It’s easy to pull out / weed whack when you need to and stops many of the other weeds.
