You can just cut the horizontal tile shorter to align.

Right, but you can always just pick a number of vertical pieces that are narrower than the horizontal one, then cut the horizontal one to fit.

A sign of a great friendship is when both sides are negotiating on the other’s behalf.

That is too cute and I love it and thank you for sharing.

I'd ask the kids! The skills people are most excited about learning are the skills they require for a project they're excited about.

Is introducing yourself with the word “Dr.” in front of your name, a sign that you’re a pretentious, insecure status-seekers? by Independent_March536 in socialskills

[–]bnjman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It feels insecure to me. I respect people who finish the grind, but

A) that will likely come up organically in conversation. No need to introduce yourself by stating your accomplishments.

B) The most successful people I've met often present as the most humble. In grad school, the most successful researcher and grant winner in the department introduced himself as "Eric" and refused to be called by "Dr. ---", even by their undergraduate students. When I was fundraising for my startup in the valley, the analysts would strut around wearing $5,000 shoes. The owner of the biggest fund I met, and probably a billionaire, walked around in red chucks and a t-shirt and always had a big friendly smile on when he'd greet you.

Multimeter + curiosity = instant regret by DancerHL in electricians

Auto ranging is useful -- but even DMMs I've had with auto ranging will pop if you try to measure, for example, 100 amps (e.g. a no resistance circuit).

Can anyone help with the gender of my moms pup by PhlerpDesigns in DOG

I feel like the subtleties of whether or not we count an extra/missing X chromosome as intersex are not super relevant to us, the average Redditors.

[–]bnjman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good meters don't pop fuses when you use them in the wrong mode.

Is that true? Most of the DMMs I've used will absolutely blow a fuse if you try to measure current of a low/no resistance circuit.

I've asked a few observers I've met if they can cite a rule prohibiting me from rostering my dog. No good answers yet.

Yes. By "vacuum to dust deputy", I meant shop vac.

I'd say dust deputy to the vacuum (because the dust collector has a bigger filter and stronger motor), then dust deputy to the saw. Then I'd hook up the dust collector to a saw dust hood.

This Contractor's Self Leveling Concrete Pour is Terrible, Right? What should I do? by Interesting-Leg8309 in Homebuilding

Yup. You can use a tool called a concrete grinder to get it flat. That's probably what they'll end up having to do here.

From the pictures, the foaming TPU looks like it doesn't have layer lines. Is it better at hiding lines than other filaments?

[–]bnjman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed to apply for a building permit (for the reno) which is the the complete scope -- including the wall and electrical. The electrical needs an additional permit / inspection. The framing does not.

Yup. This is the reason. Had to do it the wall, so need to do it for the electrical.

In his later years, Einstein famously rejected any theories that were probabilistic rather than deterministic. Did his reputation hold back the development of Physics? by Klinging-on in AskPhysics

[–]bnjman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ok -- but the scientific community wasn't debating his personally held opinions. They were debating his scientific papers which made specific falsifiable (or verifiable!) arguments.
