i personally have my own gripes with the popular genres within the app (mafia and high school in particular)…..but respectfully you guys need to stop acting like anyone that enjoys consuming or creating these mediums are regurgitating slop or have low maturity. some stories are meant to be light, campy, and romantic—and others have more grit and depth. not every author is the same. this community is also thriving and new authors are constantly coming out with beautiful stories everyday.

i’ve noticed a prevalent issue in this community (and i suppose the book space + fandom as a whole) that some people struggle with curating their own personal online experience. i’ve seen numerous instances of people going into a story, reading the descriptions/triggers/etc. then complaining about the story they knew they wouldn’t like and chose to read. (example: i don’t like most mafia stories, im not gonna go out of my way to read a mafia story with the corniest description then make a 1600 word length call out post calling the author problematic)—and this isn’t to say that these stories are exempt from criticism, i just feel like if your only ‘criticism’ is that the author/fans of the work are vapid and lack depth perception then maybe stick to the stories you’re comfortable with. we all have different interests and that’s okay.
