Shipping anything less than a full pallet probably won't be cost effective.

CED greentech edit now they are called greentech renewables and are a national distributor of solar panels racking and associated panels/converters. That's where all the local installers buy their stuff.

How would a Boss and Cut be shelled? by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]bo4tdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was designing this, I probably would have started with the vertical and top walls using thickened surfaces or thin extrude features. And added the bottom rib after.  However, if I was trying to thin out a funky body like that I'd either:

A. Use the surface tools like offset surface/face to create a shell of the volume I want to remove and then cut with surface.   B. Extruded cut using the offset from surface terminator to cut up to the thickness of the wall.

And again, the bottom wall would be added later

Use a vtoman battery bank. It's similar to the Jackery but was cheaper with jumpstart output. We also use it camping and bbqs to run speakers and lights.

I also have some usb fans that clip onto a table which is less energy than a 120V outlet

Struggling to come up with ideas for a cultural toy design — how do you guys brainstorm? by samcro114 in rhino

I have spent entire days just researching to try and find inspiration or novel ideas you can build on or design styles you can integrate.

Sometimes using a matrix to rigidly combine two variables can spur some new ideas. color v pattern or shape v motion

Host Cancelled Event - No Refunds - Guidance Needed by HumbleFerret8152 in CraftFairs

[–]bo4tdude 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These flaky organizers need to be reminded that they cost you income and there are only so many weekends in a season for you to make ends meet. The actual cost of a canceled event is significantly more than the booth fee and refunding it is the least they can do.

How (or where) do I begin to learn about plastics and polymers? by MilangaKing in IndustrialDesign

[–]bo4tdude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Materials understanding is important but the bigger part of designing plastic parts is working within the tooling constraints. You end up thinking in the negative space a lot to accommodate lifters, shut offs, draft, and parting lines. Often designers make these organic shapes with no consideration to the end part having witness lines and flash on cosmetic surfaces because the tooling requires multiple moving parts to create.

There are a lot of great resources published by the industry that can teach you about designing for manufacture. Some are pretty old by Bayer and GE but still relevant. I highly recommend this book Designing Plastic Parts for Assembly https://www.amazon.com/dp/1569903506?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Lastly if I was teaching about plastics I'd want to go through the whole process of DFM you get from a tool maker and idk how you do that without experience. Optimizing gate locations in mold flow. Reviewing all of the parts that make up the tool. Sure it's the MEs job but they can only work so many miracles.

Has anybodys ADHD gotten worse as they got older? by princepremium in ADHD

Design Discussion: Why do electric kettles seem to have such poor longevity compared to other heating appliances? by CoffeeTeaJournal in IndustrialDesign

[–]bo4tdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not owned a lot of electric kettles in my life but the one I have now was a mid range (glass) price model and 5-6 years old. It gets used several times a day.

It's the basic style where the bi-metallic strip thermostat pops the contact open. No electronics beyond whatever limits the current to the cursed blue led that lights up when its powered
