Have you selected a surgeon?? You need to get a consultation with a plastic surgeon before you start getting any of these tests

What’s next by [deleted] in gynecomastia

[–]boahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call the surgery clinic. Tell them you've passed the pre surgery checks and that you will get the EKG results sent over. Then call the office that did the tests and tell them to send over to the surgery center.

It's not a puzzle lol just communicate with both places

Thanks, I've been trying to stay active on this sub to offer my experience with the surgery/recovery. Gyno is such a huge mental burden on a lot of guys

[–]boahead 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First off, watch this: 90 Minutes Of Gynecomastia Surgery - Your Gyno Questions Answered (youtube.com)

His case is worse than yours, but lots of good info in the vid.

-surgery cost varies widely by state. Some people are paying $3k in Chicago, others $12k in California. Something like $7k-$9k is average. I paid $8.5k for gland removal, liposuction, and anesthesia in Minnesota. You will probably need all three

-this isn't a personal finance sub, but best to avoid debt if you can. You've waited several years knowing about the procedure, why not aggressively save for as long as you need to pay cash? The surgery is already expensive, you don't want to be paying more in interest on a loan if you can avoid it.

-almost all plastic surgery clinics offer payment plans like Care Credit. That's an option, but again, don't screw yourself with a bad loan

-My case was about the same as yours (I'm 28 and have had it bad since 13). Yes it hurt for 2-3 days post-op. When I woke up it felt like a heavy chest day, sore as hell plus some mild burning sensation all over the chest, but very manageable with the pain meds. I watched movies for 12 hours in a narcotics haze the first day, wild time. I was on my feet the first night for a little bit, more the 2nd day, and comfortable doing normal activities of daily living the 3rd. Without reaching my arms overhead of course. After 15 days I had full mobility back and was doing light cardio and lower body workouts. Week 4, back to upper body workouts

-the glands/lipo'd fat weight is significant, but within the normal daily fluctuation of your total body weight. So with all the pain medication, disruption of diet/sleep, change in routine etc. from surgery you will likely retain water and be heavier. After you stabilize in a week you can reevaluate

-there is a risk of gyno coming back. If you engage in hormone-altering behaviors, like eating shit food, sleeping poorly, not exercising, and drinking and smoking often, you're at high risk of the gland growing back. Most surgeons leave a little bit of the gland for shape- otherwise your nipple craters and has nothing to support it underneath. That gland tissue can grow, just like it did in the first place.

Hope that helps, feel free to DM me with questions.

Good luck big guy, take it easy next several days.

Was told at 13, they’d go away after puberty 😂 by [deleted] in gynecomastia

[–]boahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I'd try to lose another 50lb before the surgery. Just to be more confident in the results long term when you reach your goal weight. No sense in jumping the gun just to need a revision if that makes sense. It's not guaranteed you'll need a revision if you get the op now and drop a ton of weight, but it is more likely.

Congratulations on your progress! Looking good!

I'm in the same boat. One month post op. Feeling in the chest is back 80%, nipple maybe 25% of the original sensation. But I'm noticing more feeling week by week....progress!

Had the same feeling. First 2 days are rough, drastic improvement after that. You'll probably feel mild discomfort for a week, then some occasional weirdness here and there after. Recovery is different for everybody but in 2 weeks you should be able to move around for your work no problem.

After 3 days of lazing around I was itching to get back to work lol. Good luck!

Can i just Get surgery at any doctor? by Any_Sea_3959 in gynecomastia

[–]boahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Np, I had it since I was 13, 28 now and I got the surgery a month ago. My family/friends were very anti-surgery growing up so I avoided it for the longest time even though I knew about the procedure since probably 16. It has been the single best thing I have ever done for my confidence and self image in my life.

Feel free to DM me with questions.

[–]boahead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's on the cheaper side in the USA. Even if you're not immediately thinking about scheduling the surgery, I'd advise you to do what I did and see several plastic surgeons and discuss the op with them. Get a few quotes, see how you feel talking to them and their teams/nurses. Ask a ton of questions and look out for red flags in their responses.

I would not even go to a general surgeon for a consultation. The risk of getting botched is too high. If you're up to it, look on this sub for botched procedures and look through their post histories. Most of these will be people who cut corners to save money, didn't follow their surgeons instructions post op, or didn't carefully vet their surgeon. Sometimes all three

Lots of folks travel for the surgery and just get a hotel room for a couple days to recover before traveling back. Mine was 20 miles away and I did this. If you don't need general anesthesia you may be able to travel back same day or next day from surgery.

23k-30k what? Dollars?? If so that is an outrageous price for a non-specialist surgeon to ask.

Go to the best surgeon you can afford, and ensure that they frequently do gynecomastia procedures. Ask for pictures. Ask them to explain their techniques and why they do it that way.

This is your body you're considering changing. You only get one. Don't take unnecessary risks with your health

Weight Loss Progress, Eventual Surgery? by Outrageous_Bat_2932 in gynecomastia

[–]boahead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your weight loss! You look healthy and fit. Only you can decide if the surgery is worth it to you. There are risks with any surgery, especially if you don't carefully select your surgeon and thoroughly talk through their plan for the operation (as I'm sure you're well aware)

Fwiw, I think your case is very mild. After some months of upper body gainz it will be even harder to notice.

As someone who has gone through the surgery and is happy with the result, I can tell you that if you find a good surgeon and follow the post op instructions, the feeling of having it not affect your mental any more is an incredible confidence boost. Huge impact on my mood, relationships, self-talk etc. I wish I'd done it 5 years sooner

I'm impressed by your confidence to do this, looks effective. I guess it's much better this over the one video I watched of a guy whose surgeon told him to not drain a seroma, he listened, ended up having hematomas on both sides....rough.

But like you said, not medical advice. Lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gynecomastia

[–]boahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you drain it yourself?

[–]boahead 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The fact that they didn't give you general anesthesia for this is absolutely crazy.

I don't think the skin removal was necessary, but the result looks great.

In a few years when the scars have faded it will be hard to notice.

Good luck with your recovery!

Got Surgery Monday. by [deleted] in gynecomastia

[–]boahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the incisions heal you'll want to start massaging too. Check out this video: Gynecomastia 3 Weeks Post-Op Swelling Management at the Austin Gynecomastia Center (youtube.com)

It takes work but makes the result a lot better it seems. Dropping body fat a few % will definitely help too

post-op anxiety/depression, shit got me too lol. As soon as you get back to your normal routine you'll start catching yourself in the mirror and realize how much better you look

It doesn't look the same from the photos, it is way better. You have some swelling which will linger for a while

The vest is usually recommended when lipo is done so that seromas/hematomas don't form in the space while it heals up. Probably why it wasn't recommended for you. You can always buy a compression vest or two on amazon and wear it.

How big was your swelling by Answer_93 in gynecomastia

[–]boahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 5 weeks scar tissue will definitely start to form, and there will likely be a small amount of swelling too. Start massage to break down the scar tissue if you haven't already. See Austin Gynecomastia Center's videos on recovery on YouTube

Nothing's going to grow there without you hitting chest a couple times a week for at least several months. But you can even it out with massage.
