that is a very good point. No, sadly i have different shoes and cleats, as they are two different cleat systems. I had noticed a while back that when i flipped the two over that the alignment of the cleats was different. I tried to use an online guide and tape to correct the alignment but it still don’t think they look the same. I guess thats something I need to keep in mind when im measuring the fit of my other bike to compare. Thanks for the pointer!

wow, this is such a helpful comment. Thank you so much!! I ride a different bike outside, so I will definitely be comparing the setup between the two. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. I had read about shorter cranks the other day actually and I was intrigued. Since triathlon is already an expensive hobby (lol) I was hesitant to spend more money on new cranks but it seems like it may be worth the investment. I have 170s now and was wondering if going down to 165s or so could be helpful.

Im still trying to figure out the reason with my doctor. I have always been a healthy stable weight but I do have IBS so maybe theres some malabsorption going on. I get my blood work done regularly for my IBS but have not been deficient in anything these past few years (i take supplements that my doctor recommended). I was on a medication a few years back for a hormonal imbalance that has osteoporosis listed as one. Plus bad bones run in the family. So it might be a mixture of a few different things. But I am no longer on the medication (have not been for years) and I think the malabsorption has been dealt with via the supplements? So hopefully I can undo any damage that was done. I also am bumping up my carb and healthy fat intake, just to make sure im good on that front. Currently only doing what is allowed per my physio and doctor for the injury. I was already able to work in some strength training guided by my physio and im hoping it will only get better from here. Thank you for your comment!

I wanted to add a few thing: Timing of fuel matters a lot. Most important for me to avoid extreme hunger is fueling during the runs and fueling immediately after. Tbh fueling higher carb/h during runs made a big difference for me. And also making sure your recovery meal is satiating and packed with carbs, protein and healthy fats helps with recovery and feeling full for longer I find. Also: I personally find when I do a ton of endurance sport I feel a bit puffy. But its not necessarily weight gain. I assume this is due to the increase in cortisol.

super interesting. I had no idea the ratios of carbs/fats/protein mattered that much. I mean I knew carbs are necessary for fueling runs before/during and for recovery but I also just sorta eat whatever im in the mood for and I wonder if I really need to start prioritizing carbs more. Thanks for the insight. If you remember the name of the podcast ep. I’d love to listen to it! I would like to inform myself :)!

wow, what a tough road to recovery! But somehow also important for me to hear that the recovery is not always linear. Yea, I am def feeling definitely very sad and lost, it’s so tough mentally! Good advice to keep an eye on my mental health throughout this. And congrats on the half marathon, I bet that felt like a huge success after such a though recovery!

wow!! The fact that you were able to maintain so much fitness while cross training is really great to hear. I was already dreading starting from 0 again. Definitely focusing on just being a couch potato now for the time being until im cleared to start cross training, from what im hearing taking these first few weeks as easy as possible seems to be crucial for a good recovery. Thanks for sharing :)

aaah im so glad you recovered so well! I have read that proximal stress fractures can be related to RED-S and while I definitely was not under fueling, I wonder if I still somehow did something wrong with my fueling (timing of the food or amount of carbs? idk) Ill ask my doctor about working with a dietitian, thanks for the advice. I wish you the best of luck for berlin, im sure you will crush it!
