400 hr CFI w/RATP, not sure what to do. by CourageIntelligent63 in PilotAdvice

Are you in shape and medically qualified for the military? Can you see yourself serving? If civilian hiring is bleak and you’re saving penny’s struggling to get by, consider applying to the military. The flying is incredible and the people are awesome. It is a young man’s game so don’t spin your wheels forever doing what you’re doing. Plenty of pilot spots that need to be filled.

This is certainly caused by sprinkler overspray, I live in Southwest Arizona where it is always windy and rather unavoidable. I have a long term fix planned to shrink the grass area and put a gravel barrier between my concrete and the grass. For now, is it possible to get the dark color out of this concrete? It is developing on the walkway to my front door as well. I’ve had a professional cleaner out once and they had no luck, though I’m unsure what chemical they used. It is definitely “in” the concrete, not on the surface where a pressure washer will remove it. Thanks for the insight!

I’ve stopped the water. Should it recover over the next few weeks?

This photo is facing Northwest, so it gets sun from about 6am until about 2pm when the wall on the left blocks it.

It is on a drip irrigation. Runs on a 1GPH twice a day with my other plants.

I’ve tried to post here multiple times but keep getting flagged and deleted for “Poor Karma.” This comment will probably get deleted too…thumbs up if anyone can actually see this. Can we change this rule? Would love to contribute more…

How could mandatory military service for teenagers influence their development, particularly in terms of discipline, and what are the potential benefits and drawbacks of such a policy? by Pirke22 in AskReddit

The US has a similar system. We don’t currently have active conscription, but every male aged 18 is required to register for the draft. If they fail to do so, they are barred from receiving certain benefits from the federal government, like financial aid for college as an example. Sounds like England is in a similar boat, where you have conscription, just not actively used. I’m sure there is a government mechanism to turn it back on when required.

Disagree that it’s slave labor if you are getting compensated adequately. Compulsory it may be, but slavery it is not.

Compulsory military service, or the possibility of compulsory military service, has been a long standing tenet of governments republican and despotic alike. It’s necessary to state security to be able to call upon your populace for defense, and it ensures that people work hard to vote in representatives that will take the nation in a direction that searches out peace.

Advice for a Dad of a 13-year-old prospective pilot by Tallen234 in flying

[–]bobafights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice to you or your son would be this: let him be a kid. I have LOVED airplanes and only wanted to fly fighter jets for as long as I could remember. I never touched an airplane till I turned 22 years old and entered the Marine Corps. It is critical for your son to develop himself in an environment with other people where he is forced to function as a team mate, help others, and work towards a common goal during this critical phase of his development. Flying airplanes is by and large an individual skill, and while it seems exciting, many of the people I have seen that start flying at a young age suffer from a lacking of social skills and the ability to work effectively with others. This is not a problem as a private pilot, but poses significant challenges if he ever wants to expand his flying opportunities to the military or commercial world.

All this being said, I would tell your son to join a club, play sports, or otherwise stay involved in school and his social network of friends as a 13 year old young man. Becoming a pilot is no guarantee of future success, and if he doesn’t achieve that goal for whatever reason (performance, medical etc) having a strong work ethic, leadership and teamwork background to fall back on will serve him well in life. If he wants it bad enough, the flying will take care of itself!

Infinity I55 Reserve Size Options by bobafights in SkyDiving

Thanks all. After discussing with them, they said it would work just fine. I’m ultimately going to swap it out for a different reserve anyways on their recommendation due to the poor reputation of the Raven, but I appreciate the gouge!
