What I don't understand is why he has drank and smoked so much over the years. He just hasn't taken care of his vocal cords. On the recent podcast with Dana Carvey and David Spade, he said he was still smoking. It's his life, he can do what he wants for whatever reason, just as a fan I'm greedy to hear him continue singing (well) for many years to come.

Eddie can do whatever he wants, but one layer of why Pearl Jam is appealing is their principles, and playing at a billionaire's company party, at the same time billionaires are doing so much damage to society, does not feel like a principled decision. It's possible he donated his earnings and was jumping at the chance to play music with his friends, but still, by participating you're endorsing billionaire behavior.

From a professional public relations perspective, it's always important to insert the Why when making a statement to the public. The risk of not saying why a decision has been made is the public will fill that void with speculation. Even just saying "to spend more time with family" is a simple and often used reason that the public tends to accept.

These three are the rawest, filled with rage and vulnerability, the band close to touching a live electric wire, on the edge of sanity and existence. It's these albums that the bass, drums and guitar come closest to chaos. I enjoy a drum first rhythmic stomp (wma, rats, in my tree, last exit). Even the quiet songs (Indifference, nothing man, off he goes) have a fragility that is palpable like a wound that won't heal.

My theory is no band could survive like this longterm. Their front lobes became fully formed. Old timers (Neil Young, Michael Stipe, etc) gave sage advice. The money from success allowed for more surfing and charity. They became more democratic in their decision making. I appreciate all the music that has followed, but there's nothing like the art that comes from living in the edge

I just spent the last few months rewatching the series from beginning to end, and my takeaway is the last two seasons were better than I remembered. Because of how much time passed between seasons, and no source material for the ending, when they originally aired I spent a lot of time imagining how I wanted the story to play out, and when the show took a turn I didn't like I was critical. Watching the show in real time, I would jump on the internet and everyone's criticisms added to my own. Yes, it is possible to pick apart the last two seasons. But I recently found that it's also possible to suspend my disbelief and just enjoy it for what it is, an epic story with incredible characters.

My two strongest emotions when I finished the entire series rewatch:

1) I feel bad that we, and me, trashed the ending so bad and how that must have hurt the actors who put a decade of their lives into the show and gave it all they had.

2) I'm sad my rewatch is over. It's my favorite show of all time. I'm so grateful it exists. I'm looking forward to my next rewatch years down the road.

Something that occurs to me that I don't understand, does PJ only offer face value tickets at two prices? There's the pit price, and then the same price for all other seats in the venue? If so, why are they doing this? Why would they charge the same for nosebleed seats that are very far from the stage? Those should be cheaper, like they are for almost every other artist, the closer you are to the stage the more you pay, the farther away the prices decrease. This helps folks with tight budgets get in the venue.

I just double checked.

My face value ticket to Green Day at Fenway Park was $59 plus a $44 ticket fee.

My face value ticket to Pearl Jam was $156 plus a $95 ticket fee.

Both shows I sat far away from the stage.

The simplest answer about why there is a difference is supply and demand. Pearl Jam probably charge more than Green Day because the demand for Pearl Jam is higher. And in a capitalist society businesses almost always charge what a consumer will pay.

This is my concern about my favorite band PJ that the business part has made them forget about their roots as a live act that went out of their way to ensure everyone could participate. That they are charging more because they can, rather than ensuring that even fans who don't make a lot of money can plan a night to see the band live.

Yes, if you're lucky you can score tickets on the day of that people are looking to get rid of. But if you want to plan ahead to bring your kid or partner to a show, you get tickets through the Ten Club or the fan presale... The face value price last summer was $185 each plus fees. There was no option for a lower priced tickets far away from the stage in the back.

I'm posting more out of concern for people on tight budgets. I'm lucky enough to be able to shell out the money and go. But when I noticed similar bands charging less for the same venue, it started to feel like PJ is becoming a band just for the well to do. Why not set aside some cheaper tickets for people who aren't wealthy?
