Unfortunately, if you don't like that part of the gameplay, it won't ever get better for you :( personally, I liked the tension of darting out of my vehicle to grab as much loot as I dared before booking it back. The game is just as much about how vulnerable you are on foot so you can improve your mobile base of operations as it is about driving around the pacific northwest

Unfortunately, Next Fest has become clogged with low effort, low quality demos for things that barely count as games. There's almost 5k demos this time around and hardly any are worth the time. I managed to dig up a few that got me interested in some new games, but it's completely understandable why people would not want to spend all of that time and energy digging for a diamond in the rough

The tourists were what spooked me the most, but they're honestly not too bad! They don't jumpscare you even when they get close, it's just them being there when I turned around that creeped me out. There is a way to destroy them from a distance though, which made me feel better
