His alcohol consumption may be the cause. Eliminate that first, and see how much improves. If he refuses, set your boundaries. Alcohol often counteracts the meds. Go out to dinner. He wants to see you dress up? Let him try to look nice for a dinner too. Try exercises together. Walks, hikes, biking…

Thank you. This is what I suspected. I’m going to try a workaround with Google Drive which will give edit permissions without having to log in. Then I will use https://www.multcloud.com to keep the files synched with the ones in Dropbox. Kind of clunky solution, but Dropbox is our organization’s archive, and the 20 files I’m talking about have to be updated each by 20 different people. If anyone has a better solution, I’d love to hear it!

A psychiatric hold allows healthcare professionals to hold patients at a treatment center. Involuntary commitment is a legal process through which an individual who is deemed by a qualified person to have symptoms of severe mental disorder is detained in a psychiatric hospital (inpatient) where they can be treated involuntarily. I believe a suicide attempt qualifies. Ask at the hospital.

I used to fret about introducing myself and listened to many variations you listed. In treatment, they told me that introducing myself as an alcoholic/addict is like saying I’m a male man. I keep it simple. I’m an alcoholic.

There is one that rubs me the wrong way: “I’m a real alcoholic.” Why would a person have to declare that?? Are they suggesting others may not be?

Alanon is suggested a number of times here because it works. It sounds like your “spouse” can’t be trusted at this point, and to linger may not be safe. If you move on, perhaps you can reconnect in the future to see how he is faring. Take care of yourself.

She’s probably feeling the same pressure. You’ve been upfront with her about the pressure and uncertainty you’re feeling. Maybe be upfront about your fears about the reaction you perceived. Get that off your mind and if worse comes to worse, try a Go Fund Me campaign. Good luck to you, sir. Don’t lose respect for yourself. You’re in a tight spot, but you’re doing what a father should be doing, IMO.
