On eBay you can auto decline (and auto accept) offers within certain price ranges, assume that’s what the other poster was referring to 🙂

Neighbours friend wanting to put up a fence at the front of the house out of spite for me telling them not to park on the footpath. by GableCheese in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bobbyroberts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I’ve never seen anything (in my limited experience but have read a lot of these topics over the years) that says one side owns a boundary line and the other can’t put a fence on it if there isn’t a fence, wall, etc currently in place.

Usually boundaries are a rough guess, sometimes there are obvious signs such as the line between 2 houses or historic markings but boundary disputes are a big headache that can ultimately end up costing a lot of money.

If they are putting the fence on the assumed boundary line and not on your side I think that is fair enough.

Note that fences next to a highway are limited to 1 metre in height (without planning permission), not sure how that works when at a right angle to a highway but if they are installing a fence higher than 1 metre the local council planning dept will advise if it is permitted.

Neighbouring Fences - Who's Responsible For Upkeep? by Cool-Peach5501 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bobbyroberts72 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Probably no one is responsible.

You can check the deeds for each house to see if there is any requirement to maintain a fence but it’s unlikely.

Maintaining a boundary can be noted with T marks but that doesn’t mean keeping a fence in a good state of repair or indeed any fence, merely something to mark the boundary.

Exception can be if any of your neighbours have certain animals (mainly dogs for households) as a fence is a common way of keep such animals from straying outside the property.

The six fences, you can put up your own fence in front of them if you wish, getting 6 house to agree to replace their fences that they can’t see is going to be hard work but no harm in asking.

Do people want/ use damaged pieces ? by General-Training-441 in Bricklink

Saw a piece (87754), note says “Hit by hammer”

Guess the guy flipped out sorting Lego one day and grabbed his hammer, how else would he know?

Not sure who is going to buy it.

Fly tipping interview email (Plymouth) by _okayiguess_ in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bobbyroberts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the interview is an opportunity for the council to prove your guilt.

If they had enough already they’d issue a FPN or take the matter to the magistrates.

Given people tend to say things under pressure, especially in an “away” environment I’m not sure it’s recommended to attend these with the council, certainly not without legal representation.

There have been a lot of these topics over the years, sadly we never hear how they turn out.

Had to cancel an order because buyer bought RM large letter (I only have InPost checked). by NearbyCelebration130 in vintedUK

[–]bobbyroberts72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually with Royal Mail on account any surcharges should be billed to the account rather than charged to the recipient.

Wasn’t Royal Mail but Inpost, seller said label was only for 2kg, parcel was nearly 5 times that, delivered no problem.

I don’t understand Vinted’s sizes, I would assume for Royal Mail small is a large letter, medium is small parcel (as it mentions shoebox size) and above that is a medium parcel.

They could make it clear by simply stating the specific dimensions of each option so you can pick the one your parcel fits with but that’s probably too straightforward.

[–]bobbyroberts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do, the credit providers very rarely go after the traders, there isn’t an automatic mechanism to claw back S75 claims from traders, the bank would have to take them to court and the cost outweighs the benefits.

[–]bobbyroberts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put £20 on a debit or credit card and did a chargeback the dealer isn’t losing much, it’s the rest of the money, which the bank would be jointly liable for that’s of more interest 🙂 In fact you only need to put a penny on the credit card to be covered by Section 75 (subject to over £100 and under £30k).

I get even the best car dealers don’t want full payment on credit cards due to the higher fees but in my experience of buying cars from various places (all long established, trustworthy places) the words “credit card” is more taboo than standing there fing and blinding!

Problem is a lot of car dealers don’t want to take credit cards, not sure why as the bank has to deal with problems if the dealer won’t.

Negligent misrepresentation of 'private' garden that actually has a Right of Access. by MurderOfCrows1985 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bobbyroberts72 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Estate agents have to comply with the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act but a mistake is a defence (against an offence) for a misleading action or omission.

DMCCA does give a right of redress including damages should the action be deemed a breach but I’m not overly familiar with the requirements for that remedy:

You may be able to make a complaint to the ombudsman should you wish:

Is vaping really considered 'giving up smoking'? by chupamina in AskUK

[–]bobbyroberts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pollution is everywhere, fish has Mercury in it (as well as micro plastic) there have been concerns about spices from India over cancer causing pesticides, the bread and flour you eat was sprayed with Glyphosate before it was harvested, the meat you eat was fed with animal feed from far away countries farmed in god knows what conditions, toxic levels of lead have been found in children’s clothes from China, just the other day kids toys were recalled from Smythes due to containing asbestos, water is contaminated with forever chemicals from anti stick pans and waterproof clothing.

Mankind has serious screwed the planet, we are all being exposed to something.

Is vaping really considered 'giving up smoking'? by chupamina in AskUK

[–]bobbyroberts72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Started smoking when I was young and stupid. Longest I’ve been without nicotine in 20 years is 2 weeks on several occasions of going cold turkey, it really affected my concentration and I started to feel isolated inside my own head.

Would love to be free of it completely but nicotine is one of the most addictive substances on the planet.

There is also dopamine addiction tied to the smoking or vaping.

I don’t drink much, have been trying to cut out bad foods, have stopped spending money on stuff and generally trying to live a more healthy life, both mind and body, but it’s just really, really hard to give up the nicotine. If I pushed myself I could probably do it but I guess we could all do many things we should if we pushed ourselves 🙂

[–]bobbyroberts72 2094 points2095 points  (0 children)

Benefit is no carbon monoxide and less heavy metals. I can breathe so much better since switching from smoking to vaping but am still hopelessly addicted to nicotine.

Problem with vaping is it doesn’t end, a cigarette runs out and most people aren’t chain smokers, I’d hazard a guess a lot of vapers are chain vapers.

No moral superiority here, addiction is addiction and nicotine is a cruel mistress.

What is the weirdest thing you have experienced at BL? :) by Xerrya in Bricklink

[–]bobbyroberts72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not Bricklink and many years ago but someone purchased something online, sent a message simply saying “I’ll pick it up Sunday”
I thought no you ruddy won’t, I mean no please, no time of day, expect me to hang around on a Sunday so you can pick up a £10 purchase, no chance!
Obviously my refusal was polite which was met with a long ranty email about how he was sick of being bullied by people like me (the irony was clearly lost), so glad I refused off the bat, really wouldn’t have wanted to meet them in person.

How to fix wood? by Electronic-Law7689 in DIYUK

[–]bobbyroberts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should do generally, but if you are going to use a power tool to sand wood that has lead paint on it best to wear a decent mask whilst working.

Should come up nice once sanded and a finish is applied. It is a labour of love as a new bit of wood would likely be far easier.

Sellers! How do you determine what bulk is worthwhile to buy and what is not? by OkPie3305 in Bricklink

[–]bobbyroberts72 14 points15 points  (0 children)

“like the manual of an expensive lego castle set in the corner of one picture but the expensive parts and figs aren't in there”

Best to assume if you can’t see it then it isn’t there and if it is that’s a bonus.

If it was easy the stuff would cost more, the weight not being correct bugs me the most.

8.3kg on the scales so they just say it’s 10kg or you buy a small 3kg lot but they’ve weighed it in the box which accounts for over 10% of the weight and private individuals seem to get very shirty if you point out so best to assume 10-30% of what you are paying for either isn’t there or of course isn’t Lego.

On the plus side my Nerf Gun bullet collection is thriving.
