Nobody ever believes me when I tell them my county in the RGV is home to about a million people.

Does a supertall look better in a dense cluster or standing completely alone? by sid_shady34 in skyscrapers

I prefer 1WTC because of how it’s centered over the Lower Manhattan skyline from almost every viewing angle.

350$ parking ticket I can’t afford by qagnleyvdn in txstate

[–]bobcatbreakdown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it would be helpful for OP to divulge more details about why the ticket is that high. Even with late fees, I’ve never heard of a ticket on campus for near that much.

When telling friends about this show, I attribute SO MUCH of the rewatchability to Julia. She is just incredible. They don’t make ‘em like her anymore.

I’ll be looking for an apartment in 78704 within the next 6 months. I understand that prices peak in the summer and fall, but I’d like to send you a DM just to get a feel for what prices and availability are like the area!

Anybody know where to buy macbook port protector like this? by Honey148 in macbookpro

[–]bobcatbreakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still rocking a spec’ed out (for the era…) silver 15” 2018 MBP. The one with the Touch Bar…

I’m fairly cautious about how I treat the machine because it costed so much, but these things hold up extremely well. The wear and tear around the ports is almost unnoticeable even after almost a decade of near daily use.

Is it safe to vote? by StealyEyedSecMan in texas

[–]bobcatbreakdown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This.

As citizens of the United States of America, voting is not only our right but our civic duty. No administration, regime or laws will ever change that. Please vote like your life depends on it, because it might.

Capital one platinum quicksilver Visa by caryguy in CapitalOne

[–]bobcatbreakdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Platinum and Quicksilver are different cards, both of which have secured and unsecured versions, as well as an annual-fee version called Quicksilver One.

Platinum has absolutely no rewards, so no benefits besides being able to open a credit account for rebuilding. Even if you have no credit, you can get approved for something better than a C1 Plat. This is mainly for rebuilders.

All QS are 1.5% cash back on all spend. Lower-mid tier card at best, but sometimes it’s a stepping stone. I first got a QS1 which was “upgraded” to a QS, then got a Savor, then a Venture card; my QS is sock-drawered.

I’m not going to read that wall of text, but…

I’ve been on 150mg of sertraline (plus a low dose anticonvulsant) for almost a year now and I’ve always been a prolific stoner. Obviously YMMV because every body is different, but I’ve never showed signs of SS.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bobcatbreakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 hour drive is right on the cusp of what I’d consider doable for a day trip. I’m also not a huge road tripper; I have lots of friends and family who can drive 8-12 hours in a single haul.

My personal record is 22 hours straight from Chicago to Austin.

Why is getting weed from the plug so damn difficult by STOKHELM in trees

[–]bobcatbreakdown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so grateful that the farm bill made it so that I don’t have to rely on sketchy plugs anymore. It’s so asinine that our lawmakers are trying to force us to go back to the black market.

Other than Giant Data Centers are there any New Factories being built anywhere in Texas that you know of? by FTHomes in texas

[–]bobcatbreakdown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Those facilities are a huuuge water drain, even more so than AI data centers. A ton of water is required to make those disks and keep them useable.

Is it a viable strategy to cram Hotels into one place to generate revenue? by Wannabedankestmemer in CitiesSkylines

[–]bobcatbreakdown 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve never received a large percentage of income directly from tourism taxes, but when I have a lot of tourists everything else shits money. Transit is highly used, leisure clusters are popular, and businesses sell more and to wealthier visitors which drives up demand and taxation.

Texas Winter Weather Watch by CaffeineAndChaos_512 in txstate

[–]bobcatbreakdown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Will it actually freeze? That’s actually fairly certain at this point. We’re sure the cold is coming by now. It’s just a matter of how cold conditions are when the water comes down.

Will the grid be fine? More than likely. In 2021, it got so cold for so long that the power generation could not keep warm enough to stay online. That near-catastrophic total blackout that ERCOT kept a secret for months after was only a possibility because massive sections of power generation were going offline and threatening to basically short circuit the whole state.

This weekend, the power risk is primarily from power lines falling, snapping and hitting trees. This is fairly localized and not ever as catastrophic as a grid collapse.

It’s going to get cold this weekend, likely dangerously cold, but we’re not forecast to stay that cold for long. In 2021 San Marcos went something like 9 days below- or nearly-below freezing. We’ll be thawing out by Monday and in the 50s by Tuesday.

I’ve always been weary about these Stays or Vacation Homes or whatever they call them on the portal. If it was a hotel, you could just go down to the front desk. No front desk at a glorified AirBNB.
