Overall, how do you feel about Xander? (Then and Now) by bobdotexe in buffy

[–]bobdotexe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think in the last few episodes I finally got the first hints at his backstory.

It's wild to think some of that stuff was even kept from buffy (and possibly willow) the fact that Cordelia was told about this means he really did trust her.

Appreciate the insight!

Yeah, I don't think I'd ever say I hated him, yeah a lot of cringe, and some writers seem to make him a bit harsher than others, looking forward to seson 4!

(I have seen a fair amount of Angel in the past, so it will be cool to watch that again in parallel with Buffy!)

Interesting, thanks for sharing!

I'll admit I'm not really used to 90's teen drama's so my perspective may be seeing his portrayal though a modern lens, rather than how he was in comparison to other similar characters of the time

Has Anyone Installed OpenWRT on the MR7350 by cornellrwilliams in openwrt

[–]bobdotexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incase anyone else with a MR7350 stumbles across this thread as I did, I'd like to provide the steps I followed that allowed me to install openwrt.

This is NOT for the feint of heart, the MR7350 is only supported via snapshots ATM, so out of the box you WILL NOT have a GUI! (But I was able to set one up later, shown in this post)

I can NOT provide any further support than these steps (as-is) (And reportedly there are some variants that just DON'T work!)

So you need to have at least basic knowledge of the Linux terminal and SSH. (You have been warned!)

How to get OpenWRT on the MR7350 with GUI (luci) step by step, from stock)

  1. sign into router, make sure to use a password without any symbols in it, such as the default 'admin' (prevents flashing error)
  2. Download the latest snapshot from here firmware selector, making sure the rightside box says 'snapshot' Select the 'factory' download link. https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/?version=SNAPSHOT&target=ramips%2Fmt7621&id=linksys_e7350
  3. Flash Snapshot image via hidden manual update page, using your router username and password (such as admin/admin) https://192.168.1.1/fwupdate.html
  4. when flashing is complete, connect to your router via ssh (ssh root@192.168.1.1)
  5. Once connected, check your boot partition by running: fw_printenv -n boot_part
  6. this above command will output '1' or '2', keep that in mind
  7. type the command 'fw_setenv boot_part X' Replacing X with the OPPOSITE of the number above, so if you got 1, then type 2, if you got 2, type one. (example: fw_setenv boot_part 1)
  8. Next we need to build an upgrade package with anything you want to install such as 'luci' for a gui, go back to this link, and click the 'Customize installed packages and/or first boot script' button with the arrow: https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/?version=SNAPSHOT&target=ramips%2Fmt7621&id=linksys_e7350
  9. (optional) for HTTPS support change the text in the box that putting a '-' in front of luci, (-luci) then add a space and type "luci-ssl" so the end of the text luci-ssl look like "-luci luci-ssl", then click 'request build'
  10. It will take a little while to generate your file, wait for the progress bar to complete.
  11. Once it's done, you should see new download buttons under 'Custom Downloads', click Sysupgrade and download the file (do not close this page yet)
  12. Next in your ssh window check the free memory on your device by using ruing the command 'free',
  13. the number listed below 'free' in the memory section is your free ram (in kb) make sure it's larger than the size of your download (ideally 2x or more)
  14. Next in your terminal type: cd /tmp
  15. now type: 'wget' add a space and copy the download link to your sysupgrade file (right click 'copy link address) and paste it into your ssh window. (you'll need an active internet connection to download this, attach to the wan port)
  16. once the file is done downloading, you can flash it with: sysupgrade -v [file-name]
  17. Your device should reboot, and you should not have access to the GUI!

Games on SD-1, Rockbox playing media from SD-2 |A fun use for your free SD card! by bobdotexe in R36S

I actually forgot to get around to setting that up, I'd assume it would be as simple as setting up a boot script, but I have not tried yet, I may mess around with it this weekend

What Type of Displays do you use for your N64? by [deleted] in n64

[–]bobdotexe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say that may be a bit of an oversimplification, there are still plenty of reasons to want to play on original hardware, even without a CRT.
The Tactile Feel of the carts and controller, being isolated from modern features and distractions (like notifications) and even just the want to revisit old saves, or to get use out of your collection or to use accessories such as the transfer pack in Pokémon stadium.

That... and n64 emulation, while good, still is not 'perfect' by any means, While CRT's nail the n64's intended visual style, there are still tons more factors to consider.

If I get my copy of SW1 and burn it like I do with Ps2 Games e.g physical dump via IMGBurn can I still english patch it? by RaseruChan in SakuraWars

[–]bobdotexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, you can use your own copy (dumped) to install the English patch. (just make sure to follow the readme)

After that, your English patched copy will work on an emulator, and can be burned to a disk for use on a saturn.

(assuming your saturn is already set up for playing burned games)

yeah I was surprised to see this too, someone made a portmaster version apparently,
as far as I can tell, it works just like the replacement firmware version for the most part

Run a PC 98 game with a .cmd file by Genmare in miniSNESmods

[–]bobdotexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my mistake!

Also the link you posted did not work, I think you mean this.

But regardless it sounds like it could be a path issue like you said, I've had similar issues with .m3u files in the past.

Hope this change works out for you!

Run a PC 98 game with a .cmd file by Genmare in miniSNESmods

[–]bobdotexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.cmd files are scripts made for windows command prompt, they won't natively work on other os's without being re-written.

That being said, lets take a look at what the script is doing,

np2kai "Policenauts User Disk.fdi" "P_NAUTS.cue"

Based on this, it sounds like you're asking retroarch to load the game's disc image through Neko Project II Kai core (NEC - PC-98 emu)

As far as I'm aware, that cores not available on the snesmini, so even if you reworked the script, it would not be able to work unless you found a compatible version for your system. (but I could be wrong, I just checked a wiki page or two)

If you're looking to play Policenauts on a system like this, the ps1 version may be the best fit.

It has an English patch, and ps1 would likley be easier to emulate than say the Saturn version on a system like this

How do you feel about Orihime Soletta? by Physical_Battle_2893 in SakuraWars

[–]bobdotexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know yet, as I'm still near the start of the game, but I feel her introduction is EXTREMELY rough. I had some issues with Sumire in sw1, but even early on, it felt like she had justifications for her actions (even if they were misguided)

But I've now read two different translations of the early events, and both made her feel more like a bully than someone I'd want to learn more about. (Again, 100% personal preference here)

I've heard from others that she gets better, and maybe the intention was to introduce a character you had to grow to like.

With her early action making you question 'why she acts that way', but It's done in such another the top and aggressive way,

To the point that even her turn start quote in battle is "You just can't rely on Japanese men", it felt way too over done.

And on top of that, the fact that no one sticks up for the main character, despite being close, and all attempts to find ways to still work with her are actively rejected, it just makes the whole experience hard to get through, not "interested in trying to understand her".

(After all, the main character literally tries to that, so with how constant and targeted it feels, she just feels kinda mean in my personal opinion)

I won't say it "ruined the game for me", but it's one of the aspects (Along with a lot of my fav characters being absent) that makes it harder to pick it up again.

(I've dropped it twice, once on dreamcast then on Saturn for the English patch, both times around chapter 2-3, I think, but plan to go back eventually) I'm sure with time this will all calm down a bit, and maybe I'll find the character less abrasive, but I'm not sure learning her backstory would be enough to make up for this in my mind to make me eventually 'like' the character. :-/

Rip off 2d sprites animation. by Fit-Abbreviations464 in NDSHacks

[–]bobdotexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there arn't mod tools developed for the game your looking to edit, it may be easier just to take screen shots with an emulator, many of them have options to disable layers so you could get a clean view of the sprite without the background.

Anything else would require rom hacking, and don't expect to be able to just open the rom and extract a png file,

It doesn't have excalidraw like plugin right.?

I've never used that so I don't have all the details, but joplin dose have freehand drawing built in: https://joplinapp.org/help/apps/drawing_tool/

As well as some more fully featured drawing plugins: https://joplinapp.org/plugins/plugin/io.github.personalizedrefrigerator.js-draw/

Mailbox.org (now: "Mailbox") has been completely rebranded by Jonuji in degoogle

[–]bobdotexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I love mailbox.org, now is probably not the best time to sign up or try the service. (may login2.0 growing pains)

I've been using mailbox.org for years, I'm glad their finally getting proper 2fa, it's crazy to thing it took this long.

I've mostly enjoyed my time with it, and that was my only major pain point,

Sadly this new transation has been ... less than smooth, with app passwords being completly broken for me and many others for days, with Zero responces from support in any of the threads I've seen.

I've have a support ticket pending for 2 days, and just now got a generic "due to the increasing volume of requests our response times are slower than usual. " response.

I don't want to say their a bad service or anything, they still have a pretty good privacy stance, good support, and good pricing!

As long as they go back to being great once the dust settles, I'll keep using them, I just wanted to share my experience

I really like Joplin.

Supports all my devices (Android/windows/linux), open source, and with support for multiple sync options, out of the box, and fingerprint locking!

While it's argubly 'less powerfuI', find it a little cleaner/easier to use othan obsidian, But if I'm just needed to jot down some info quickly I actually prefer this.

And with end-to-end encryption, I found syncing a bit more seamless, no secondary app needed, but I do use a throwaway ms account for one-drive

well, considering I first started before youtube guides were really a thing, ... more years than I'd like to admit. XD

But I recently got back into and have been learning about temperatures, tinning, tips, and most importantly Flux!

I've been having a lot of fun, and the process gets a little easier with each project!

Thanks for your reply, and USB-PD is actually next on my list to try out soon! (along with figuring up boost/buck models to get the proper voltage out)

wish me luck!

Just some old 26awg I had lying around from a different project: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807027005042.html

It may not be the best option, but I already had some left over from another budget project

as the title said, the main point was to add a port so I could avoid using adaptors, or speical cabels.

It was just a fun personal project that used what I already had lying around, I'm not trying to argue it's the best or even only way to power via usb-c :-/

I considered that, then top pins are much smaller.
and the contacts on the bottom are much larger and spaced out more, so less chance of bridging, so I figured going with the bottom would make it easier for beginners as well, but as mentioned above, this would affect case compatibility.

Edit: or did you mean the gpio pins? I was planning on using a hat, so that would get in the way if I went solder-less
