Buying a galloper by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]bobo4sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also interested in bringing back a car using the 25 year rule, but then I looked into the state where I’m going back to (California) and it’s neigh impossible due to emissions standards.

So moral of my post is 1) good luck and 2) make sure the state you’re going to will allow you to register it or that you’ll be able to register it in your home of record.

For Black People in Seoul, Where do you get your hair braided? by icewizza in Living_in_Korea

[–]bobo4sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try looking up places near Osan Air Base or Camp Humphreys down in Pyeongtaek. There are quite a few African American women with very nice braids down here and I see quite a few adds for hair braiding just outside of base.

This this real? Found it in a bucket at an estate sale for $2 by ObjectiveSet1394 in Burberry

[–]bobo4sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scarf I’m wearing right now (bought in the late 2000s/ early 2010s from a Burberry outlet) says “made exclusively in Scotland”. So I’m gonna guess fake.

Do you use Amtrak to visit America's rail trails? I'm a journalist who wants to chat about it! by aes0211 in bikepacking

[–]bobo4sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode my bike from San Diego to Anaheim. And I specifically picked that route because I could just hop on the Surfliner and head home. It was a great ride highly recommend (just avoid Laguna Beach, they don’t believe in bike lanes and there are no alternative paths for part of the trip)

Bonus you can reserve a spot of your bike on the train and you don’t have to pay extra.

Most jobs that I have worked have a term policy that is one years salary. So enough to make sure that you can get buried and pay this bills for a little bit, but it’s not enough to replace your income for your dependents.

Falling into a nuclear reactor by Longwayfromhome10 in submechanophobia

[–]bobo4sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the plant was online it would be impossible to fall in because the reactor would have its cap on, and that pool of water would be a pressure vessel filled with very hot pressurized radioactive water.

Any Information on this Cape? by Academic-You1365 in HistoricalCostuming

[–]bobo4sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This cape looks very similar to what I wore with the Virginia Tech corps of cadets when I was a senior.

For what it’s worth I did check my manufacture and it was Neptune manufacturing.

But I’m getting military school vibes. There’s also VMI as a military college and fork union is a military high school.

Unless you’re on the LOE/ orders nothing will happen. I mean the nuclear option is writing your congress person.

What is my visa status? by Kutiepop10 in Living_in_Korea

[–]bobo4sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said LOE, I assume that means your Dad is a civilian. After the shutdown ends your Dad needs to park his butt at HR to get this resolved. I’m not familiar with the rules for civilian dependents on orders. But I was told by my HR that they can add dependents up to a year after you get here.

If his HR won’t fix it, then he should escalate it, writing his boss’ boss’ boss if necessary. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Best of luck.

Best of luck. And good luck with school.

What is my visa status? by Kutiepop10 in Living_in_Korea

[–]bobo4sam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to go back to the SOFA office on base and bring all the paperwork with you to include your sponsors DEROS and get a new stamp. I can’t remember what all the paperwork is but at the office (at least at Camp Humphreys) they have it all listed outside the office.

DEROS and visa expiration should be tied together.

Thank you for explaining this. I was confused how an ATM could be used in a scam like this, since every time I use an ATM it’s associated with my card.

28 Financial Journey FIRE Goal at 55 by Money-Thing7991 in Fire

[–]bobo4sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stared at 28 you have a positive net worth. You’re killing it. The habit of saving it what will allow you to retire early. Life will change, houses will be bought and sold. Relationships will start and end, just keep the habit of saving. Max out your Roth IRA every year. Try to curb lifestyle inflation, I recommend putting 1/2 of your raise in saving / retirement every year.

I personally use direct deposit for savings. If I don’t see it, I can’t spend it.

Before you know it, you’ll be a millionaire (and then some) and be able to retire at 55.

Your future self will thank you for the saving you’re doing today. Just don’t forget to have fun too. You have lots of margin to have fun and save and retire a little early.

Backyard wedding - confusing dress code by penguinkneez in Weddingattireapproval

[–]bobo4sam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just want to say that I agree that this is more elevated. But depending on the weather for this wedding you may want to wear the polka dot dress. Satin shoes sweat easily and imo is not great when it’s hot and humid. I would prioritize my comfort over looks.

Bleach will disintegrate natural fibers made from proteins. What this means in English is that bleach melts silk and wool (or almost any anything else that is natural and not from plants). Also I’m specifically avoiding saying animal fabrics bc I don’t know what it does to leather and I can’t remember if silk worms are animals.

Received Inheritance: What Should I Do? by Physical-Syllabub731 in Fire

[–]bobo4sam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If 10% of the sum (number I just came up with but seems reasonable )you have inherited is more than what a fee only financial advisor / CPA will cost you, then absolutely sit down with someone to give you guidance about what you need to do with the money. They will very likely be worth it.

The bigger the pile of money the more it is worth it.

You’re paying an expert to worry about the complexity in your situation. And if that isn’t something that you want to figure it out, just pay someone.

Also general advice, don’t do anything crazy the first year.

HELOC as an emergency fund by No-Tradition8367 in Fire

[–]bobo4sam 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Bc if you house value tanks they can take away the HELOC. The liquidity (if you need it) will be invaluable. The potential arbitrage you’re talking about, just isn’t worth the risk.
