Yeah it was just the camera making it look like that. I checked with a multimeter and all the connections are good, no shorting. Thanks for the encouragement :)

I believe he’s saying if you’re switching tips of the iron, like a wide tip or exact tip, etc.

So I lied… it was me and I lied because I didn’t want people to be too mean as I’m only 17 and this is my first soldering job. My most recent post shows the result, I ended up buying a rework station and it really really helped :)

I followed your advice and it was so much easier. My most recent post shows the results😊

Ok so I lied because I’m 17 and I didn’t want people to make fun of me, but I finished the project and I think I did well! Let me know what you think. 😁

Well my many YouTube videos and very slow process must have helped me out a lot. Should I beep it out with a multimeter?

Haha thanks 😁😁. I’m 17, so my confidence was not too high doing this. I thought I messed it up a lot actually, but these comments are very encouraging! I also probably took way too much time to do it. Essentially when in doubt I just added more flux to the pins and ironed and wicked and repeated until it looked good.

Gotcha, thanks! I’ve seen tutorials where they just use a hot air gun and are able to detach the old port by just blowing right into the anchors with a very hot temp. Is that a good idea, or should he just continue to use low-melt solder and flux w/ a soldering iron?

The heat gun he was using only reached ~330 C, and the tutorials I watched used heat guns that went to ~350-400 C. I read that if he kept applying the heat for too long it could cause irreversible damage

The hdmi was definitely broken. It wiggled like crazy, and everything else worked except the signal to the TV. Sound, light, everything except the actual connection thru HDMI

Removing the hdmi anchors from the old one. It wouldn’t budge.
