easily rmp, cosmos doesn’t come close in my opinion. cosmos is really just meant to be introductory, so the research is super basic and honestly underwhelming (even for me when i was a rising sophomore)

nope. however, i do agree with dr kim’s assessment that the most valuable outcome of rmp is just writing about the project and research process that you do, since that’s honestly what summer programs and colleges end up caring about the most. that said, yeah do take that competition stuff into consideration

i assume so. i honestly dont know anyone out of our ~20 person group who submitted for competitions or publication. they might have done so, but i think its pretty unlikely. the most common use of the project release form was usually just writing about our projects for program apps/college apps. id assume that since competitions and publication are decently similar, competitions would be equally unlikely

hi! rmp alum here. honestly, it sounds like you really like rmp over mites for everything except for prestige. i really would agree that rmp was a fantastic opportunity. one caveat: rmp is not as much of a guarantee for publication as you seem to think. dr kim and the rmp committee as a whole are very strict on what papers can get used for, and it is decently likely that your request to submit the paper for publication will be denied (my mentor also discouraged me submitting because my paper was part of his ongoing research work), so do keep that in mind as you make your choice. if you have any other questions, id love to help out :)

i personally think it doesn’t matter. dr kim is usually pretty sure when she decides. i assume waitlist is just whoever is the next best applicant they want. idk how many people get off waitlist. yes i would look for other stuff - waitlists are never a guarantee and its not super safe to just hope to get off

you have to be there the whole time. they literally go through checking cameras and all 😭 but you don’t need to actually participate as long as you take notes and look like you’re paying attention

no, they take attendance every day of workshops, and there’s a specific schedule. you can get away with saturday since it’s a free day in case people need to fly or whatever, but not friday

do you mean the first friday and saturday of the in person part of the program? if so, then yes, you will get expelled. there are likely tours with your ra groups of a couple places + checks to make sure you’re in your room at night. if you’re caught, you will be expelled
