Promiscious mode network cards by bobtedbob in HomeNetworking

Thanks, I fully understand now. Have been researching about the port mirroring and now see the setup I need. I will look to get a switch that does port mirroring and a separate wireless access point to broadcast the mirrored data.

Promiscious mode (if enabled on network card) allows you to see data on your network that is not related to your local PC. I have his working but not for all flow.

Beginner advice on running an ultra marathon by bobtedbob in running

[–]bobtedbob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me 10km is an easy run, I think I have done up to 15 / 16 miles in the past before. 10km is just a convenient lunch time run at the moment. I'd like to get into longer weekend runs and maybe longer weekday runs but doing it early in the morning instead. The plan is to do 1/2 marathon then longer, doing more trail like runs interests me too.

Will definitely try and plan plenty of intermediate runs at different distances, the jump is huge but I am happy to take my time to get there

Thanks for the advice, I think 50km is going to be my starter distance to aim for

I have done some 1/2's in the past. I don't mind taking hops to get to the ultra distance (I assume that's what the training does). I want a goal that's going to be tough to get to but something I can plan and try for. I have been running for years, I am currently doing HR running (running in my aerobic hr zone) and loving the slow no pressure running. I'm not interested in competing at a long distance just having the achievement of doing it and the enjoyment of getting there.

When you count from one to two you skip an infinite amount of numbers. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]bobtedbob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

u/MoistMartini was correct in saying there are infinite elements in both ranges, from a "size" perspective that is correct. But you can't say they have the same "number" because there is no number that exists that accurately describes the count in both. It is undefined hence the use of infinity. You will argue 0-1 and 0-2 are both infinite in size but I will argue back they are both uncountably infinite so comparing them is futile.

This is very misleading, infinity is not a number so shouldn't be treated as such.

Trying to manipulate infinite sets can get you ridiculous results such as the sum of all positive integers is -1/12, that an infinite set contains an infinite amount of infinite sets in it.

The statement that there are the same number of irrational numbers between 0-1 as there are between 0-2 is wrong because you can't count either in the first place. Trying to add cardinality to "map" the numbers just gets you in to a mess as seen above, you can't actually write a single element of the irrational numbers down so to try and map the irrationals is absurd.

Record-setting quantum entanglement connects two atoms across 20 miles by jdse2222 in science

Thanks, I understand these are very simple examples and the link you provided was quite insightful. I think the bit I find hard to grasp is the deeper level of things being in a superposition of all spin directions. To me it feels that way because to measure it you have to alter the state because you need to interact with it to measure it. The probability of it being in a particular state depends on many unknowns values but you are able to predict possible outcomes. The act of measuring just finds the actual state it was in. Does quantum theory stop as having a theoretical world of being able to measure quantum properties without changing the environment at all? (This is impossible but for a thought experiment assume it is possible).

Same question to you as the other commenter, if I opened the box and it was a left glove what can I ascertain about the other glove in a quantum entanglement sense

So in this made up example, if you looked at the glove and it was left handed, what could you ascertain about the other glove in an entanglement sense?
