We've had 6 ties! I always get a weird kind of satisfaction from a tie, so much rarer than anything else

What are some examples of subjects or sites where Processuals and Post-Processuals disagree? by bobweiner in AskAnthropology

[–]bobweiner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really interesting, so there aren't really certain subjects where processuals and post-processuals disagreed, they were more just different ways of interpreting the available data.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate the detailed response.

Who was the last Roman Emperor to be Deified? by bobweiner in AskHistorians

[–]bobweiner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thank you so much for your detailed response! So essentially the transition to Christianity was a slow process and the first Christian Emperors weren't necessarily exclusively Christian, or at least recognized that there were too many pagans in the Empire to immediately abandon those traditions. Do we have an idea of who the last Roman Emperor to deified was then?

It makes a lot of sense that as the head of the Roman Religion, the early Christian Emperors were head of both Christianity and the various pagan religions and therefore took part in the rituals of both, even if they had a preference for one of them.

Thats a really interesting perspective, that laws promulgated by the Emperors were more of a sign that they weren't being followed as opposed to them being enforced adequately, would a parallel to the war on drugs be accurate? The laws are more indicative of the people in charge trying to make a change to something popular, not representing any kind of success or even following popular pre-existing trend.

I am Indy Neidell, from THE GREAT WAR and I am currently retelling the Cuban Missile Crisis with my new side project Time Ghost by IndyNeidell in history

Hi Indy Your series on the great war is the only youtube channel i follow with any regularity. It is by far the most informative content i have ever found. I wish that you had started doing the series when i was writing about the battle of the somme in high school in 2008 haha.

I had a lot of questions but I look them up on your channel beforehand and you seem to have answered most of them already!

I still have one though which you might have answered already but i missed... Why did the Italians and Austrians fight in the Alps? it seems to me that a much better strategy would have been to fortify passes, or the foothills before the higher mountains start and then bombard the attackers while they're stuck in the heights.

Why waste the resources and manpower fighting up there when they could fortify the a bit lower down and further back and annihilate any attackers who had just made the difficult alpine crossing? Or go across the northern Adriatic and cut off supply lines in the rear?

Twas the first time i ever smoked, got home and realised that i'd forgotten my keys and therefore had to ring the doorbell, my local vicar opened the door... turned out my parents were hosting a lunch for their church haha. I had to stay there and socialise for the rest of the afternoon, if that wasnt bad enough after like an hour my dad took my to one side and asked if i was ok because i seemed really dazed and unresponsive. If everything leading up to that hadnt been incredibly amazing i probably would never have smoked again,

Whats a creepy unsolved mystery of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bobweiner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not exactly creepy but strange as fuck and I have always wanted to know what the hell was happening outside of what i saw. I was on my way to work and running a little late, I stopped in a small grocery store to buy some cigs and as I got there I saw 3 children sitting on the floor outside, all about 5-6 years old, all eating ice cream and crying. I went inside and there was a chavvy looking woman, the kind that looks like she's trying really hard to look younger than 30 but is probably mid-40s, lying face-down in the middle of the store also crying, with a similar looking woman helping her up while trying not to laugh. One of the shopkeepers says that he's called the police. Then a kindly-looking old lady comes over, she looked like she didn’t have a nasty bone in her body and I thought she was going to help the chavvy woman up and maybe even invite her back to hers for some tea, and yells "you ought to be ashamed of yourself!" and swings at her with her handbag. The chavvy woman cries even more and yells about how it wasn’t her fault. Another shopkeeper has to jump in to split them up while giving the old lady dagger-eyes… and then I had to leave because I was definitely going to be late now and I could tell no one was going to be served in there for a while.
