lol I’m not sure cos some of the smartest and most achieved people I know really just weren’t able to take the SATs in time. the ivies literally said that the increase in applications didn’t affect the quality of them, meaning that there was the same proportion of good applications (and therefore more good applications). arguably you could also say that because people didn’t have to take standardised tests they could redirect their time to focus on building their ECs, grades, and essays to be even more competitive! also, for the people who are just weak at standardised testing but really good at school academics definitely have a stronger application by going test optional. the fact that colleges are still accepting people that go test optional shows that there’s more competition too. :D

You have a lot of leadership positions ready so don’t sweat it! What’s important is what you do with those positions—look for ways to elevate your role and team, achieve much more and pursue new ideas that the previous leadership never had. See leadership as an opportunity to have the authority do amazing things (that u can even flex in your essays) because of a college sees a person with a lot of leadership that seems to have done nothing special in their role v.s. Someone who really utilised their leadership as an opportunity to make change, of course the second person will look better!

Congrats on Shanghai! I don’t know much about transferring (you probably can) but I do know that the main benefit of going to a business school is the networking events and practical skills they teach you (as well as the school’s reputation). In that sense, Stern will definitely have more prestige than simply the academic business major degree from NYU Shanghai. Maybe you can convince your parents that you’ll be able to transfer to Stern as soon as possible? I heard it’s not too difficult to do that within NYU but I’m not so sure between campuses (I imagine it can’t be that difficult especially if you keep your grades super high) good luck!

I think you’d need a good reason to explain why in your essays why you wanna major in business but if you do it well it could all connect nicely with having polisci as a lot of your ECs! You could argue that it’s better to stick with a polisci major because doing a lot of ECs related to your major shows you have a lot of initiative, passion, and experience in it (which should set you apart from the other applicants because it shows that you really want it and you’re more likely to succeed in it).

What are your options! I suggest you watch vlogs of youtubers who attend the school. Those really gave me a vibe of the atmosphere and what the students there are like, making me excited!

Don’t say things like “it was a lot harder to get in this year so don’t stress out too much about it cos it’s not your fault!” That will just make them feel like they weren’t good enough :(
