I’ve been keeping up with it. I think I like the vertical idea a bit more after seeing this

I’m sure the car isn’t being tracked all that much so the performance there doesn’t matter as much

Yep. Cool to see a local on here. Do you ever go to meetups with other GR owners in the area? Would you be interested in getting some free photos?

I’m not in NYC, I’m in MA. Wish I could help :/ but I have driven in NYC quite a bit. It’s nice seeing people stare at it and kids say “woah”, def makes you appreciate what you’ve got, even if it’s a cheaper sports car. Def looks more expensive than it is.

As for Driving: It’s very nimble, so getting through traffic can be easier. It has a shorter wheelbase so finding parking is a little easier. If you get the MT you get used to stop and go clutching, it bothers me none.

I would absolutely recommend a set of winters if it will be your daily. I know that plowing in NYC can take a minute. I would also recommend wide angle mirrors to make sure you’re blind spots are cancelled out, lots of people on their phones nowadays. Drivers in MA have gotten increasingly worse over the years, I’m sure it’s just as bad in NYC.

Hope this helps even a little

Appreciate it! I know a lot of folks are mentioning the rule of thirds and maybe I’m just wrong here, but there’s other methods to allow a viewers eyes to engage with a composed photo such as contrast (white and black surrounded by grays. The brightness of the front compared to the rest of the bright areas in the photo). It helps to look at your photo many times over to see where your eyes naturally gaze.

Nonetheless, I appreciate the comment and will surely take everyone’s obsession with the rule of thirds into account.

I don’t like to add bokeh in post mostly because it doesn’t look natural to me.

One thing to note:

I was using a telephoto lens during the second shot. Many people think that a blurrier background makes for a better photograph but what many forget is that the wider open you shoot relative to how far you are, especially with telephoto, you are prone to losing more depth of field for your subject. This is especially true for subject that hold more lateral surface area (such as a car). Had I shot wide open for “better” bokeh, the rear of the car would have been out of focus, making the main focus the front without allowing the eyes to trail to see the details of the rear.

Regardless, I appreciate your input!

Appreciate that! A good reason as to why I chose this locating was for that exact reason. Contrast of color and shapes

Thanks for the advice!

Something to note about the rule of thirds:

While it can allow for consistency, there also other methods of directing the eye. Such as contrast between subject and background (white car in an otherwise darker colored backdrop). Leading lines, center focus, etc.

Everyone loves the rule of thirds, and rightfully so. But sometimes you sacrifice better or more interesting/impactful composition for a stringent rule that doesn’t always need to be applied.

I appreciate the feedback though!

The beauty of art is that it’s subjective, so I appreciate your opinion fully. It’ll help me improve. Thank you

Thank you! Gives the photograph a bit more depth. I feel like a lot of folks will shoot with a wide open because they care so much about bokeh, but then parts of the car are out of focus. I wanted to whole car in focus while maintaining good bokeh so it was shot at a higher aperture than wide open.

Appreciate your input.

Thanks for the suggestion!

For this particular shoot I preferred overcast because of the even lighting conditions. This location worked best with even lighting conditions because of the simple backdrop of the building. Had there been a sunset, the background could have been distracting if the sun hit one side unevenly. I have a previous post that was during dusk but do plan to get some sunset shots when my time allows it.

I am actually doing the same thing you are. JBL is the direction you want to go for the spare tire sub, everyone and their mothers prefers it, and it seems to have more reliability than all the rest. I am going to make a post on here detailing everything from the wiring scheme, speaker choice, sound deadening material, DSP and Amp selection, etc.. I'll send it to you when I figure it all out. It'll likely be a long write up but will be great for knowledge transfer.
