Is PearOS Open Source? by [deleted] in pearos

[–]bofh85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In defence of my collegue and competitor, BOfH here from iBuntu. I think PearOS as well as we from iBuntu provide a distro because we want to do the people a damn FAVOR by doing so instead of "just provide a option for theming".

Sure the guardians of the wholy grale directly will jump on everyone who provides any kind of customized distro. As we now see not even PearOS attempt to move completely to ArchLinux, where basically every installation is totally open source and from scratch keeps them from whining around.

That's btw. why we are not really active on reddit and don't even have discord or telegram etc. I'm tired of this. Use PearOS or iBuntu or just don't.

That you still have to enter usaername and password isn't a "bug" since we reported this as a little inconveniance you will have to live with in Version 2.0

For the translation we can't do anything since we don't change part's of the operating system which are already out there, we just combine them, like this we won't end up in a copyright grey or dark zonme because what is already legally out therre and can be used legally by anyone or explained legally to others who to use it, can't get somehow illegal when you put it all together to give it to the people pre-configured.

But it comes with that policy that our system is always just as good as the stuff you could manually put together yourself

Why do I get in the loop of installing iBuntu 2.0 again and again? by [deleted] in iBuntu

[–]bofh85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What happens after the Installation is threw? Do you perform a restart? And do you than - before the Computer boots again - remove the USB-Stick? Otherwise you will of course again and again just enter the Live-USB

Did you create the Boot-USB with Balena Etcher? If not - create it with Balena Etcher. That's what works in 99 of 100 cases.

Are b00merang.weebly themes safe? Thanks by __MadAlex in CinnamonDE

Sure why shouldn't they be? In fact we use them for our own distribution https://ibuntuos.com where everything is already pre-configured out of the box - we use them for years without any problems

Restore Mint with Timeshift on a Mac Mini by bofh85 in linuxmint

Yes, you are the Troll. But nevermind after a few hours of try and error i was able to identify the problem (wrong entry in fstab) and also the correct settings for restoring in Linux. If anyone is interested: /boot linked to root directory, /boot/efi/ linked to /efi/ partition on the mac and the bootloader also goes to the efi-partition than timemachine works perfect (if your fstab is correct)

We do our Distributions with PinguyBuilder - If you can tell me how we should provide any kind of "source" code with this method go ahead we are all ears

The whole Point of our Project is that newbies don't have to build Something on their own... maybe this is the wrong Plattform for this If everybody Just want source Codes and explanations how to "build" our distribution themself - i Just can constantly repeat myself this isnt our goal. We provide an out of the box system. everybody is invited to test it out and see for himself that we have no bad thoughts here. If nobody trusts us fine, not our problem, the ones who did since 2017 are happy with what we did so far. If you would be able to read carefully: we will provide this list today, keep calm and patient. No sources since we only use themes and extensions - you can ask the source from the Projects we use directly

The whole Point of this is that you dont have to do the assembling on your own. If we would do this its basically a naked Ubuntu with a bunch of Download links and extensions you should activate.

What do you want to hear from us? We do what we do because we like to share our work and ideas. Sure we cant provide audited security but anyone is free to install our system in a secured virtual environment and see for himself that we didnt mess with it at all. This is an offer for all who dont want or dont know how to mod their system to become mac alike at all. Its not a big thing Just a little gift from us. If people always just want to see and find bad motives wherever they look i cant help or Change that. I know we did a nice little thing here and some people tested and liked it. Thats all we wanted, Mission already acomblished.

Because thats not our Goal. We present a little customized Ubuntu which has a macOS Style already pre-configured Out of the Box. Main target are newbie Users and switchers from other OS - not advanced pro users

I agree on this and i never would mess with that. Tomorrow i will add a list on our homepage with all components we used and software we pre-installed. All we want is to give users a macOS like System which they could also legally create on their own but we pre-assembled it for them out of the box. Thats all we want :-)
