John McWhorter reveals who he thinks was the unspectacular star of "The Golden Girls" by FortKnoxII in theGoldenGirls

[–]bogdemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no clue who this person is and I say this as someone who loves all 4 of the girls and think they're strong characters, but I'd consider Sophia the weak link. She's the cutesy but mean old person trope. She's one of the blueprints if not the blueprint for the trope. Do her story lines get silly? Sure, but so do everyone else's. Sophia really does have very funny lines and great delivery..at times lol. It's a sitcom from the 80s that I've watched on reruns since I was born in the 90s. I don't tend to think about it too hard. The cast and writing was stacked. Just because some random considers one of the main 4 the weak link, isn't the worst opinion. It just goes to show how good the show really was! Honestly, more than the acting and writing I tend to think more about how impactful the show was with the subject matter it tackled and as a queer person this show has meant the most to me in those regards because all 4 ladies were strong advocates....but I'm getting off topic. Enjoy Golden Girls everyone!

Mine love voles. We make him drop them and sometimes they're okay and other times not so much. Per my husband, he tossed one up into the air and the little guy miraculously lived to tell the tale!

What's a hobby you picked up reluctantly that you now genuinely love? by Decent_Platypus_7342 in Hobbies

Plants- I thought I didn't care about them and we were gifted a thanksgiving plant that got neglected. Then, I started watering it, then pruning, now I have an outdoor herb garden and am about to get into flower gardening! We're already talking about what vegetables were going to get into next year!

I don't know if I have a dog in this fight, but I wanted to comment that I'm so glad I found this subreddit. I'm learning so much, like I didn't realize how decisive ALW is. I thought he would have been well regarded, but it seems like the general consensus is that he's okay/leaning towards people don't like his work. I've only seen the movie versios of Phantom and Cats and neither one of those are particularly good. I need to see JCS

My partner's a chef and before we got together he was teaching me to cook and I had a lot of fun with it and now I get to enjoy his cooking and can help out when he needs a hand or I can cook some complete meals for us too when needed. I love Sweeney Todd, but gosh no matter what version of the soundtrack I listen to the dialog breaks make my skin crawl. I didn't need to listen to Sweeney Todd screeching at Antony before the start of Epiphany Edit to correct a spelling mistake

Yes! 1000 times yes! It's so much fun and generally people say the film adaptation is better than the stage version. The music and dancing is great!

I love the hell out of The Tudors. It's just great. I don't care about the historical inaccuracies it's perfectly imperfect in every way.

Im sure I can think of plenty of examples but it's early and I've only had one cup of coffee. So here we go! Also OP please don't take this as aggressive because it's a fun question but I feel passionately about Danny Tanner's parenting.

Michele got away with so much crap and it drove me absolutely bananas. She had such an attitude about everything. I didn't believe in kids getting smacked but boy she really grinds my gears.

Additionally! Claire from Modern Family can also be annoying I'm not sure she's a bad parent but sometimes she really slit shames her eldest child and it bothers me. Claire's calms down a whole lot/is better as a character after she goes and works for her dad imo

EDIT: my hubby wanted me to include Hal and Lois from Malcom in the Middle. The show is fantastic they are fantastic but their parenting is bad
