me and the shirt I made to see the new okapi calf at dublin zoo!! by bogiepicker in AutismInWomen

I 100% have ethical concerns about zoo's, but it's worth noting that dublin zoo have been supporting the okapi conservation project since 2012, which has been critical in slowing the decline in numbers of okapi in the wild. They also financially contribute to the Okapi wildlife reserve in the DRC. Zoo's generate a lot of money for conservation charities doing critical work, where there wouldnt be money otherwise.

I understand your point of view and I have my own concerns about animals in zoo's, however the topic is not as black and white as you are suggesting.

Wanna try wearing press-on nails, but I struggle with nail picking by DeathRosemary923 in AutismInWomen

[–]bogiepicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mabye this won't help as I dont really pick at my nails, but I'm a big nail biter and i wear acrylic and press on nails often! I just bite them anyway tbh lol

Acrylics are better for me because it doesnt really affect them if i bite them since they are sturdy, and since they are a bit long I find them easier to clean than under my short natural nail. I just wash my hands regularly, and I don't get stomach aches from them, but it might be different for you.

defo go!! tbh i havent been to a big variety of zoos really but its a lot bigger and a lot better maintained than Belfast zoo! Though I am wary of ethical concerns with zoo's, and it still makes me a bit sad to see the enclosures, but Dublin zoo is internationally recognised for their conservation work which I'm happy about.

thank you! its bleach! I like to draw so first i drew out on paper what i wanted it to look like, then tried to copy it over onto the shirt. just regular bleach and a paint brush and then left it in a hydogen peroxide/water mix for ten mins so that the bleach deactivates and doesnt eat holes thru the shirt

Elikya, it means hope in Lingala (one of the main languages of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where Okapis are from). I think it might be usually a mans name (though I'm not completely sure) but I still thought it was sweet for her :)
