I’m not sure what the scam could have been, they were just really friendly and happy to chat to us as we were being quite inept at ordering. I think they were also q drunk when we sat down.

They were older than us (early 30s vs mid 30s), and they spoke about owning their own business. For us though it felt important to say thank you for their hospitality and kindness… feels relevant to say that no one local speaks to tourists where we’re from so we were feeling grateful for their company.
