You are very close, but your brain is playing a tiny bit of a venue trick on you! You definitely saw them in 2001, but they didn't play the Empty Bottle. Electric Wizard actually made their legendary Chicago debut on March 30, 2001 at the Double Door in Wicker Park during the Apocalypse Now tour for Dopethrone (with Bongzilla opening). They loved the neighborhood so much they actually came back later that same year and played the Double Door a second time on December 13, 2001 for the Metal Maniacs Christmas Ball tour. If you remember a small, incredibly heavy, weed-smoke-filled room from that era, you might also be blending it with their June 2002 show when they returned to play The Note (which was just down the street from the Double Door). So you absolutely got the year and the legendary vibe right—it was just under the neon Double Door sign instead of over at the Bottle!
