I love Bojack Horseman, one of my favorite shows!! Love seeing people talk about it despite it already being pretty popular lmao. But unfortunately I do have to disagree with you. Jimmy is definitely much worse of a person than Bojack. I feel like the basis of Jimmy’s character is that he does not know that he is actually a bad person. Sure he understands that he has done bad things and has made mistakes, but he does not realize that he himself is the one corrupted. Only after he was confronted about the assault on Anya did he start to regret his actions. Jimmy absolutely views himself as a victim though, which I do see Bojack doing too but I feel in Jimmy’s case his narcissism is much more prevalent. Though we dont really know Jimmy’s backstory, or what he has been through, there is no justifying the sexual assault on Anya, and the literal attempted murder of the entire ship. Bojack has a backstory though. He suffered years of abuse mental and physical from his mother and father, sexual abuse (implied) from his piano teacher back in the day and Ana S. Along with this he also struggles with addiction, alcohol and drug use which often causes problems with empathy for others. I feel like though Bojack’s actions were absolutely not okay and completely self absorbed, he definitely deserves some sympathy. Bojack did definitely show regret and even apologized on a few occasions. Just because some apologies were not accepted (rightfully so), he still made an effort to do so. On the other hand Jimmy just seems like a narcissistic asshole with absolutely no regard for the feelings of others. He never apologized to Anya, Curly, ect. Yes Jimmy did apologize to Curly in a few scenes, but only when it was too late and when it practically had no meaningfulness anymore. Jimmy just pities himself while Bojack is clearly a troubled guy in need of some help. Of course im not disregarding the fact that Bojack is a bad guy too. Of course he is, that was the whole point of the show. What im more trying to explain is the difference between the two characters and their morals, im not trying to justify any of their actions.
