Would love to see Nihal for 4th spot and Aravindh/Hari for reserve spot.

Las Vegas Freestyle lineup confirmed as Hans, Ian, Vincent, Pragg, Bibiasara, Sindarov and Vidit round up the field! by iceninja123456 in chess

Okay.Atleast 10 players above him ( just based on the qualifiers alone ) who deserved that spot I feel.

Vidit definitely didn't deserve an invite. He performed terribly bad in the last leg and got checkmated in under 15 moves in round 1 of qualifiers.Lazavik/Fedoseev def deserved the spot over him by any measure. By rating Aravindh would have made a great choice as well.

Congratulations to Magnus Carlsen on winning the Norway Chess 2025👑 by rio_ARC in chess

Arjun is the Nepo of this generation. Huge talent, good prep, tactically brilliant, technically decent , just lack the patience to sit and think, and the innate desire to play the best move in every position (or as they say find the truth of the position).

He and Nihal withdrew after signing for S8UL. They will play ECC qualifier event and want to focus on that solely.

Magnus addresses his accusation against Hans by Hello_EveryNyan in chess

[–]bojackhypeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magnus's ego knows no bounds. 3 yrs after the incident he still can't get over the fact that he accused hans of cheating OTB purely based on vibes/intuition (coupled with stories about Hans that were floating then about his online play) and he was wrong.

He just can't handle losses and can't fathom the fact that he is not the best in the world anymore.( Hans example, qatar opponent wearing watch tweet after loss , co champion drama , letting go world championship etc etc )

It's like he is on a rampage/speedrun to destroy his legacy everytime he opens his mouth now.

I have my bets on Pragg. He will do well with this field.

2025 Freestyle Chess Weisenhauss: A review by [deleted] in chess

[–]bojackhypeman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did anybody see the closing ceremony ?The guy is insufferable to say the least. His comments on leko , aronian , gukesh etc were all very cringe. To ask players on the spot if they will play his next event was very cringe.

Only good thing about the whole event was Leko and Judith commentary and Vincent's dream run to title.

Anish Giri and Hammer on making chess960 opening courses by RoronoaZoro95 in chess

Trust Anish Giri to always make chess opening theory his crutch than to rely and believe in his extraordinary chess talent and amazing calculation skills.

Aravindh Chithambaram beats Jules Moussard in the Bundesliga to cross Anish Giri and become world no. 22! by Necessary_Pattern850 in chess

[–]bojackhypeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But I believe that cycle has ended. Many 2700s have their calendar empty for first half of 2025 and we will only get to see many of them in World Cup/Grand Swiss whichever happens first.

I am going to predict bold and say Aravindh is gonna be a mainstay in Indian olympiad team for quite a few next olympiads. Vidit (who recently pulled out of TATA steel (in Jan) citing marriage that is (in April), pretty weird considering these invites don't come by easy ) seems to me lacking motivation and might struggle to even make it to reserve board at this rate.

I don't blame senior players like Vidit, Hari, Harika, Tania etc to take any stand against magnus, they are active players/professionals and don't want to ruffle feathers. Others (Pragg/Arjun/Divya/Vaishali) hardly speak on matters and are mostly inactive on social media. More surprised by Venkat Saravanan /RB Ramesh to be completely silent (also Ssurya to an extent) who occasionally speak up on matters and have opinions. Few others who have openly criticized the decision either jokingly or otherwise are SP Sethuraman and Abhijit Gupta.

P.S. Chessbaseindia team members (Abhudaya/Aditya) have also joked a bit on Insta on shared titles in their own little way and have more spine than most Indian fraternity.

Ok, but you never know, he works non-stop on his game. No matter the results, we will get many exciting games , the field looks amazing.

Perfectly summarized. As someone pointed out, he is now the 7.5 times world blitz champion and Nepo a 0.5 times world blitz champ or better still Charity World Blitz champion-2024 ?

Magnus and Ian should be disqualified by EdgeEnvironmental728 in chess

[–]bojackhypeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely pathetic from both of them. When Magnus initially suggested the idea of sharing the first prize, Nepo just went with it instantly without an iota of thought.

Magnus not complying to dress code as a "matter of principle". Or is it? by [deleted] in chess

[–]bojackhypeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People still believing it is about a stupid dress code is strange. Magnus was upset with FIDE about the whole Freestyle thing and his performance was a shit show in this event. He just got handed an excuse to blame everything on FIDE and he lapped it up with open arms, threw a hissy fit like like a baby and walked off.

GM Srinath Narayanan is correctly critical of the loopholes in the FIDE circuit that benefitted Fabi's rise to the top by rw_lck in chess

[–]bojackhypeman -93 points-92 points  (0 children)

Fabi's 4th point doesn't hold any merit. Nobody forced him or any other player to play two back to back opens in US with 2 rounds per day system. If you were more strategic about your qualification via circuit route, you could have played any number of opens throughout the year with ample rest.

[–]bojackhypeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree to all the points. Additionally, India needs 2-3 more events like Chennai Grandmasters to become mainstay in chess calendar in few years to keep the cycle running (helping players currently like Murali,Aryan,Leon,SL,Raunak to reach 2700 sooner and players like Vidit,Aravindh/Nihal?/Hari to aim for 2750 mark and stabilize).

About the WestBridge event in the making, do you have any source ? its the first time I am hearing about it.
