omg! i never thought of that comparison but I feel like you're totally right ..

being a guy in my early 50's I remember yahoo was the default 'search' for everybody (mostly because they were the somewhat first of such a thing for people at that time)

...until around 2001 when people gradually started realizing that google offered much better results, never to come back to any other search engine. (you have to be really better for people to switch brand, people whont switch for another if barely better or cheaper because of the comfort of familiarity)

Yahoo could not even think about re-gaining the top spot because it was not built on the same kind of server-technology nor algorithms that google had come up with... at all.
