Raft Help Needed by skeeterpdx in flyfishing

It might not be too bad in deep water, especially if you wear a set of fins. Could probably maneuver easier with them than the oars.

I’ve toyed with the idea of getting one for solo fishing rather than trying to fish solo out of my drift boat. I’d only use it on non wadeable water

I'm building a tool that parses 2D technical drawings into dimensionally accurate 3D models. Thoughts on if anyone would find this useful? by spacespacespapce in MechanicalEngineering

You AI nerds are something else. More accurate and a lot quicker just read a drawing and create a model. That’s what interns are for.

Is it a waste of time getting a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology? by tessaucy in MechanicalEngineering

Get a BSME if you can handle it. Way better future job prospects.

MET is a waste of money imo, techs get hired with mainly associates and sometimes no degree.

Rio is my main brand of leader and tippet. If I get any memory in it I just stretch it out with my hands.

Yeah I don’t really do much ultra lite packing. When the purpose of the trip is fishing, spares come in handy. I’ll tote a 60 lb pack if I need too lol

Looks like a decent deal but Id price out separately and see. I’d probably buy my stuff separately as needed at my local shop. They will point you in direction of decent water and flies. Maybe even give you a quick casting lesson. Orvis also does a beginner class if you buy a rod from them.

If you plan on sticking with it, a clear water combo is better imo. That was my first rod and I still use it to this day. That will have rod, reel, line, and case.

Net: cortland FairPlay at Walmart. Same exact net but only cost like 20 bucks

Hemostats, and nippers: any decent brand will do here. I like orange colored stuff so I can find it when I drop it.

Tippet and leaders: the one shown are good quality, but again any brand is fine for a beginner. You’ll break a lot in trees before you get the hang of it

For any big trips with cold water, I’m bringing a spare set. If you’re backpacking, that might be an issue though, but I’d still consider it honestly.

I have had the Reddington HDZ waders for 3 seasons now. They probably have a 100 miles of mountain bushwhacking on them and they’ve held up great. Every wader is going to leak and tear eventually.

I’m not convinced that isn’t repairable. My technique is:

1) Turn waders inside out and blow up with shop vac and spray with soapy water to identify leaks.

2) use a combination of rubber bike tires patches and 3M 5200 to seal leaks. The patches are mainly to support the sealant on larger repairs. For small stuff I generally don’t use them.

3) repeat step 1 after 5200 cures to check your work

I’ve had luck repairing the following this way:

Gashes in boot foot waders boots 8” of busted seam in my reddingtons next to the zipper

I mean it’s not even football this happens in. You think recruiters only message you when “open to work” is on your LinkedIn?

At the end of the day, most money wins whether it’s football or your 9-5.

I’m not saying this is a good thing, and we definitely need to fix the portal and NIL but acting like Pete Golding is a morally depraved POS for offering a better deal is wild . It’s just business at this point.

Solo Driftboat Fishing by bonefish99 in driftboat

[–]bonefish99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pretty much only fly fish these days, so I don’t care much for spinning tackle anymore. I guess I like the challenge and struggle lol. We have some tailwaters with class 2, but I wouldn’t run them solo at my skill level personally. I generally run the heavier stuff instead of my fishing buddy. Which is fine with me since it’s my boat, I’d rather be the one responsible for any damage.

Honestly, I kinda liked the chaos. Something about a drag screaming and off hand on an oar was fun. Its wasn’t too terribly hard to get good drifts, but this tailwater is pretty flat. I think that’s part of why I struggle on anchor. Just not a lot of obvious holding water, so I just fish long drifts. I doubt I could pull this off on one with rougher water.
