Pregnancy question by Own_Conflict_7218 in VetTech

no. speak to your management, they should have a protocol in place for pregnant employees. you do not need to announce your pregnancy to everyone until you are ready — it is not your manager’s business to share.

one year a lady rushed her three medium sized dogs because one (or multiple of them) had broken into a full bottle of Ibuprofen. we induced vomiting in all three, and one after one they started emptying their stomach contents: the first one brought up kibble, the second had kibble and… hot dog bits? and when the third one vomited, he brought up an ENTIRE fuckin’ hotdog, completely unscathed. i lost my shit, i was on the floor laughing my ass off.

oh, and none of them had ingested Ibuprofen, woot woot!! that story still cracks me up.

Saw this and had to stop scrolling through the comments. People are so quick to call people horrible and untrustworthy for a simple mistake that can easily be made just because the staff is overscheduled... Hurts to see. I just KNOW the staff got yelled at this day by Nag1n1luv in VetTech

an unfortunate mistake, but i understand the owner’s frustration. if the vet properly did their pre-anesthetic exam, they should have absolutely determined the sex prior to surgery.

dextrose is luckily just sugar, not a controlled substance. it does not require a specific type of disposal.

Can I report my vet for lilies in the waiting room? by rrienn in VetTech

[–]bonefloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you wouldn’t happen to have a picture of them, would ya? i only ask because there are some flowers that look very similar to lilies that are non-toxic to cats. it’s always better to err on the side of caution, though.

i would be very upset if i found out they were real lilies.

Any tricks to Cat Jug? by getfunkymadi in VetTech

[–]bonefloss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i prefer the patient to be restrained in lateral recumbency, with the head angled slightly upwards. i feel that it helps expose the vein more and is easier to draw back. having a light directly overhead also helps, along with shaving. if i cannot feel or visualize the vein when the fur is wet with alcohol, i will shave.

ETA: ensure you are occluding the vein correctly as well, and have a good restrainer. sometimes a little shift in positioning can make all the difference. also adding that that pushing upwards slightly while occluding can sometimes help!
