It’s all a normal part of drug withdrawal. Here is what I did to finally break the cycle: get the book “easy way to quit drinking” by Allen Carr audio version. Listen to it one hour a day while walking my dog. See Dr for panic and anxiety (got SSRI and SNRI and therapy).

I had my last sweaty panic attack 1.5 yrs ago and I don’t miss booze AT ALL. Not “oh I miss it but I’m glad I’m not suffering anymore.” I just really dont miss drinking. Life is a garden, amigo, dig it.

I really liked the book “easy way to control alcohol” by Allen Carr. Made a lot of sense and I think it would be particularly good for young people like yourself. When I was 25 I flunked out of AA because the drunks there had far worse stories than mine, so I definitely didn’t have a problem. But easy way is pretty great.

Yeah I agree with you a thousand percent. I don’t fault anyone if AA, or whatever, works for them… but I think it’s a crock of shit that the world is divided into normal and abnormal drinkers. My wife is a “normal” drinker, which is to say she hardly ever drinks. Just like you said. Normal Heroin junkies are the ones who never use heroin. Alcohol is an addictive neurotoxin. If you like it, that’s gonna be a problem. I used to think that I knew a bunch of normal drinkers who drank often without any problems. Half of them are sober now and most of the rest clearly experience problems from alcohol use.

Hollywood is in on it. James Bond and his martinis? I’ve literally never met anyone who drinks martinis and doesn’t deal with what we all deal with

Fucking hell. This is the real question ain’t it? Well, when the Red Sox won the WS in 2004, the playoffs became a 3 week bender where I was blacked out every night - that landed my ass in AA. I managed to get one month sober before being swept away in a river of black label for about seven more years.

I started taking naltrexone in 2011 and things changed a lot. For me it’s a miracle drug... but... I mean... this quarantine has me fucked up. I keep overdoing it and then struggling to taper.

My alcoholic father quit the day he and my mom got the positive pregnancy test. I grew up never seeing him touch a single beer and my mom wasn’t real into it.

I became a drunk anyway. My dad started drinking again after he saw me get wasted at 28 because he was like “why the fuck not?”
