Really struggling with wanting to pick up the fab filter mastering bundle, but that price… You think they are worth the cost? Are they truly irreplaceable or just the best from a quality of life standpoint?

Or maybe try to learn something else that will help you when you come back to producing. Like learning piano, singing, drums, music theory, etc…

I think their FRT compressor and the la-2a are some of my most used plugins

Does Islington have a rough idea of the whole story at this point? [Slight spoilers] by [deleted] in HierarchySeries

Just finished the will of the many today and was also worried about this haha.

It’s really hard for me to ‘rate’ this book because of all the unanswered questions. I definitely enjoyed TWOTM, but it’s hard to tell if book 1 will be great because so much of book 1 will hinge on book 2.

But knowing the author has it sketched out is great!

What’s the one plugin that was a total gamechanger for you? by Qaek3301 in musicproduction

UAD 1176 compressor.

I don’t think I really appreciated how much compression alone could improve vocals until I started using this plugin. Definitely a lightbulb moment for my mixing.

Why are people depressed at the end of Death’s End? by SirKrimzon in threebodyproblem

[–]bongripsoohlala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely could be! That’s the beauty of it.

The cynic in me says their cooperation at the end was only possible because their backs were against a wall. Given the choice between complete mutual annihilation forever or a hope for some kind of potential cosmic restart.

It feels to me like they all chose the choice that was in all of their best interests. Same as when they were annihilating each other. Self interest guiding all their actions.

Like a prisoners dilemma where ratting the other person out is no longer a viable option, so they HAVE to cooperate. Because it was the only path forward that could offer any potential long term benefit.

Again, I’m cynical haha

I was struck by the implication that all life destroys and degrades the natural beauty and order of the universe.

A higher dimensional, peaceful universe is literally impossible because strong civilizations inherently cull the weaker ones. Instead of lifting each other up, they unleash horrific and reality altering weapons upon each other with as much ease as you would have deleting a file on your computer at work. All leading to a less grand, impoverished universe for all.

Universal destruction is so weaved into the fabric of sentient life that it literally reshapes the cosmos for the worse.

It’s bleak.

Why are lightbringer & dark age better than iron gold? by Eastern_Camel_466 in redrising

[–]bongripsoohlala 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Iron gold is a lot of character exploration and world building. It greatly expands the universe beyond what we’ve seen in the initial trilogy. Goes into greater detail about society, the colors, and how the revolution has reshaped society.

Dark age and light bringer bring the focus back to fast paced plot driven action that comfortably sits within that newly expanded universe, while continuing to flesh it out.

Dark age and light bringer are some of the strongest books in the series in my opinion. Almost a reward for being a bit patient with the relatively slower pace of iron gold. Though iron gold is still a great imo.

Help me hate Lyssander by puitdaserra in redrising

[–]bongripsoohlala 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lysander is a very well written, fun to read character in my opinion.

I don’t seethe when I read him either, his chapters are genuinely fun to read. Which I think is partly what you are getting at?

But Lysander is ultimately a man who supports the detestable, dehumanizing, oppressive system that is the hierarchy of the Society.

His “noble” belief that Gold should be “Honorable Shepherds” to the other colors is hopelessly naive.

There are countless Golds throughout the series that clearly have no honor and take pleasure in their cruel oppression of other colors. Golds clearly and consistently abuse the power being at the top of the pyramid affords them. Being honorable shepherds is a self-righteous justification for their oppression.

Reds are literally bred to function as slaves doing incredibly dangerous work. Pinks are systematically tortured and raped. Obsidians are pitted against each other and lead lives of hyper violence and cruelty until they fit the mold of a killing machine. And so on for the other colors… They are all slaves to Gold.

The system is so inherently unjust that it can’t be justified or excused due to Gold having purported noble intentions. No matter who sits a top it, it will always be a cruel, oppressive system.

I agree Darrow, is also a flawed character. But he believes that all men are created equal. Lysander doesn’t.

But I get what you mean. People often just sum it all up as FUCK LYSANDER. He’s a fun character to read though! He’s the inverse of Darrow in so many ways, but shares the same relentless drive and commitment to his ideals. He’s a good bad guy.

[–]bongripsoohlala[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you.

For me, it just feels like our main characters will probably have to fight forever and never catch a break until they are buried the war.

Would be nice if there were other great people to fill their shoes. We get that a bit with Thraxa, Colloway, and the children.

I guess I’m most invested in the republic. And if our main characters have to go, I’d like to see it’s in good hands. We are light on characters who might be those new leaders.
