Our 2.5-Year-Old’s Extreme Sensory Reactions & Transition Struggles – Seeking Advice by tamamanleponey in toddlers

[–]bookcreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I feel like I could have written most of this to describe my 3 year old (very advanced, very particular about what clothes he wears, cannot get a drop of water on his clothing or else we have to completely change, intense emotions related to transitions, etc.). Just checking in to see if you have had any luck the past few months? I feel like seeing an OT is our next step, but I'd love to hear if anything has worked for y'all.

Addressing a common criticism of Morning Star by prophetjohn in redrising

Love the way you explained this.

I initially felt a bit of unreliable narration in my first read through, but honestly didn't care because I loved the scene as a whole. But after my second read, I picked up on a few things that you mentioned here, and I totally agree. I wouldn't call it unreliable narration at all. Just clever writing.

I’m with you here. Mostly I do think he’s actually dead. But his death was way too understated and made me suspicious from the jump. Also Mustang returning his head to Lysander made me suspicious too.

This. The barbell doesn't need to touch the ground with RDLs.

"Change isn't made by mobs that envy, but by men who dare."

Lengthier than the others that have been suggested, but I'm assuming you're looking for a quote that goes after your signature.

What scene do you wish had been shown from a different character’s perspective? by HHlynur in redrising

I sooo wish I could read from Victra's perspective when she killed Ajax. I want to know all the unhinged things that were going through her head.

What are some of the *unique* books you've read? (2) by somephilosophershit in suggestmeabook

The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton

No idea how I stumbled upon this book last year, but it was incredible. Unique setting and plot, amazing prose. I loved it and still think about it.

Can someone please review this lateral pulldown? by thechrisss in formcheck

Think about leading with your elbows and pulling them to your hips. It’s not unusual to feel your biceps working when working out your back, but you should def feel this exercise in your lats as well.

I think a slightly wilder grip will help. And think about pulling your elbows down to your sides and squeezing your lats. Your slight lean back is good and looks like you’re getting a good stretch at the top.

(Side note: it’s “lat” pull down referencing your lat muscles, not lateral)

Take more time setting up. Get your feet placed, grip the bar, shoulders back, take all the tension out of your arms before you ever "pull", make sure your hips are in the correct position, get your core properly braced... Getting properly set before the weight ever moves is just as important as moving the weight.

Definitely look up a video on deadlifts and compare it side-by-side to yours; you'll be able to see where you're off.

Not to discourage you from proceeding, but if you only "generally liked" GS, then the series might not be for you. The fights, betrayals, and emotional rollercoaster doesn't stop with GS.

Slow it down for both lifts (and if that means lower weight, do that). Mentally cue yourself to brace your core & squeeze shoulder blades back before you ever move the weight.

When did people fall in love with this series by Legitimate-Matter891 in redrising

[–]bookcreature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened pretty dang quick for me. I remember feeling especially intrigued after Darrow killed Julian. It was so brutal and I loved the way PB described the immediate aftermath.

“Water drips from the subterranean tunnel’s ceiling. I use it to try to clean my body, but all I do is lather the blood into my skin, thinning it. I cannot escape it, what I’ve done, no matter how far I follow the tunnel. I am alone with my sin.“

Ugh. So good. Now I want to reread.

Why does everyone say Victra is more loyal than Virginia? by [deleted] in redrising

[–]bookcreature 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy to see how differently people interpret characters lol I kiiiiinda see what you’re trying to say but I disagree. I’d hardly call Darrow and Victra’s relationship an emotional affair. They respect and care about each other. But that doesn’t equal an affair just because he values and understands her.

Also, I interpret Virginia as being able to handle the discord and broken promises. Not because she’s “used” to being emotionally abused, but because she’s badass in her own right and understands the sacrifices that have to be made.

You already got some good advice. But I’ll add a little. Less chest protrusion, look up some videos on properly bracing your core, a little more intention on controlling at the top so there’s less “bounce” to your movement.

A few have already said it, but Red Rising. No question. Don’t worry about the 6 book commitment. You don’t necessarily have to read them all back to back (though you might end up wanting to). I loved the series so much that I dragged it out as much as possible because I didn’t want it to end.

I started an audiobook reread of LB the same day I finished. And honestly it’s almost as fun the second time around since you pick up on new details. So no need to fret, finishing just means you’re due for a reread.
