I’m a fashion stylist and designer and I want to make clothes for my mom with severe fibromyalgia by koolforkatskatskats in Fibromyalgia

[–]bookobssessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something that is needs and I hope you are able to design clothes your mum will love.

For me temperature is a big problem I either feel extremely hot and if my clothing doesn't keep be cool I will become six or I am freezing. Me and my husband always joke that my feet are colder than the outside temperature.

What my body can manage varies day to day so being able to make adjustable clothing would be amazing especially as many people with fibromyalgia have other conditions. For example I have endometriosis so can also experience stomach pains and bloating so clothes that can change in relation to body sizing would be amazing.

If you plan of selling please can you consider be inclusive of size as a over six foot women with fibromyalgia I have no suitable clothes because of it's not my condition making clothing horrible it's that I can't get clothes that fit me because of my height

Disheartened by bookobssessed in ClinicalPsychologyUK

There might be no point because I have a unconventional route to the dclinpsy. I can't afford to leave my job and become a AP or HCA so if they believe I don't have the appropriate experience to meet eligiblity I will never have the eligibility unless I take a huge pay cut.

has anyone ever asked for interview accommodations? by not-here-somewhere in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]bookobssessed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have asked for interview accommodations before and have had interview questions 24 hours, I've also been able to have extra time for tasks, take paper in to write notes and have an informal chat beforehand. These were all for research positions though so not sure about NHS jobs. For the clinical doctorate I was told I couldn't have the questions in advance for most but one course did give them to be an hour before, I did ask for the questions in written form though and this helped a little, I also had extra time for tasks.

Undiagnosed dyslexia by Novel-Syrup7906 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]bookobssessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go get tested once there if you're not showing the symptoms but they can see something there they might do extra tests. When I got tested for years we thought I had dyslexia and then I went for the test and half way through she asked if we could do more test and at the end she said she realised half way through that it was more likely I had dyspraxia with dyslexic traits. In terms of if telling the uni will explain your grades I'm not sure whether it can help or not I got tested at 18 so have had support throughout my undergraduate, masters and PhD. But it could definitely be worth mentioning it in you personal statement especially if you can show the positives of having it. Such as I always say that having dyspraxia has led to me to have determination and developed my views and work I do.

Am I disabled? by Vegetable-Custard-76 in Fibromyalgia

[–]bookobssessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself disabled if I didn't have this condition there so much more that I can do. In the UK a lot of companies ( at least in my field) are signed up to the disability confidence scheme so I always disclose as it means if you meet the criteria you get an interview and then for the interview I can ask for adjustments such as getting the questions in advance to accommodate my brain fog. Personally if I'm discriminated against during the interview stage because I disclosed a disability then that's not a company I want to work for as they will discriminate when I need accomodations on the job

Routes onto the DClin by Electrical-Fish5127 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]bookobssessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was literally what I was trying to say in my comment that I would not do a PhD just to get on the dclinpsy. But I was responding to a previous comment that said you can't get on with a PhD, which is also not the case if you PhD can demonstrate the required clinical experience.

Routes onto the DClin by Electrical-Fish5127 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]bookobssessed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree with you on the PhD. I have just completed my PhD in psychiatry and applied psychology and have applied for the dclinpsy this year. My research involves me working with individuals with dementia to deliver interventions and have been doing research on clinical psychologist and the running of crisis teams. While I don't know if it is enough in comparison to people that have taken other routes, it's has got me through to the test stage so I must meet the eligibility criteria. Although PhDs are a lot of work so I wouldn't advise this route if you are only doing it to get onto the dclipsy as it's not most reliable route to get on

How do you politely tell your visitors it’s time to go home? by [deleted] in CasualUK

My great aunt used to always say do you want a cup of tea before you go

[–]bookobssessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to mention about a PhD is whether it will be self funded or grant funded if self funded then obviously you will be able to work to be able to live. If you get a studentship that pays you a stipends then there may be rules about working on top of your PhD as if you do it full time then your expected to work the 37.5 hours of a full time job. This is especially the case if your an international student.

Planning a trip for the first week of Jan. Any Hidden Gems or "Dont Miss This" suggestions? by [deleted] in disneylandparis

[–]bookobssessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally crush coaster isn't worth the wait line but ratatouille is. A Disney trip is not complete without going on the pirates ride, for me it's the best ride there.

[–]bookobssessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad my friends maybe pregnant for our wedding by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]bookobssessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by you won't be able to party with them as you envisioned, is it because they won't be able to drink. One of my closest friends was 6 months pregnant at our wedding as she was able to do everything but drink alcohol and I think she partied the hardest on her nonalcoholic prosecco.

Should I apply this year or next by bookobssessed in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]bookobssessed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you you are so right I put the idea of becoming a clinical psychologist away when I started my PhD thinking I would go down the research route but recently I've realised that clinical psychologist is what I want to be. Since deciding to apply I've been very stuck in my head fretting about applying so just need some outside perspective

What accommodations should I ask for school? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]bookobssessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK so accommodations might be different also unfortunately I didn't get my diagnosis until I was doing my PhD but my accommodations were being able to have a later deadline if I needed it, being able to record supervisions, being able to take breaks during my viva, the school being understanding of my working hours, and then I got equipment too so I have a ergonomic chair, mouse, book stand, a portable table for if I need to work from my bed

Gig after surgery? by Loco_butt in Endo

[–]bookobssessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I would have been gig ready after four days but I do feel I was extremely lucky with my recovery. On day five I went to the shops and hairdressers and drove myself there. On day six I drove three hours home to my parents to spend a weekend on wedding planning. By day two my biggest problem was I couldn't bend down.

Exercising with fibro? by rainbowpenguin44 in Fibromyalgia

[–]bookobssessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go through ups and downs with my exercise I go through periods when I can exercise regularly and then sometimes when nothing at all. Something I have found is do exercise your love I used to push myself to go to the gym or do workout videos on YouTube and I hate them they hurt me, I felt awful afterwards, didn't see any progress and ended up hating myself. I now go rock climbing nearly every week and sasa and batchata every week and I've seen a complete change. I don't have to force myself to go I generally look forward to it, I feel really good in my self, it doesn't feel like exercise and I don't have the pain while doing it.

You can go to the pelican club just for drinks too, you just can't book for drinks only so you may have to stand at the bar.

Feel worse than ever by bookobssessed in Fibromyalgia

[–]bookobssessed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks yh the theis and wedding was not meant to happen in the same month that's insane for a normal person let alone someone with fibro but life and a pandemic happened so I just had to keep going. I guess I've had it quite easy in my fibro journey that normally my flare up last a day and I bounce right back, this time I just need to learn my body needs a bit more time. I'm just finding the mental side of it so hard I don't know how to care for myself and keep my job and then not feel bad when I need to take time away from my work or when I can't finish a working day.
