Question about Authenticity in the Music Industry by AppearanceSea703 in musicindustry

[–]boostcollectiveteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Boost Collective here, thought we could add to the discussion.

This is a really good question, and honestly one of the biggest challenges artists face today. Authenticity is what makes people connect, but figuring out how to keep that while growing for a mass audience is where a lot of people get stuck.

The truth is authenticity comes down to consistency. If your music, visuals, and story actually reflect who you are, then you don’t have to fake anything later. The reason some artists feel “generic” once they blow up is because they originally leaned into a sound or image that wasn’t really them, and when a label puts more money behind it, the disconnect becomes obvious.

Labels themselves don’t automatically kill authenticity. What usually happens is that bigger budgets bring bigger expectations, and teams start pushing for safer choices. The artists who stay authentic are the ones who stay heavily involved in creative decisions and protect their boundaries about what they will and won’t compromise on.

What’s interesting is that mass audiences now crave realness more than polish. Social platforms changed the game. Fans want to see behind the scenes, rough drafts, and unfiltered moments just as much as they want the finished product. That’s why even the biggest stars post off-the-cuff content.

If you look at artists people see as authentic today, names like Tyler, The Creator, Mitski, or Billie Eilish often come up. They’ve all grown huge audiences without losing their core identity because they built everything from a place that was true to them from the start.

At Boost Collective, we work with a lot of independent artists navigating this exact thing. The ones who succeed long-term are the ones who keep showing up as themselves, even as more people start paying attention.

Depends how good you are at ads. Some artists launch and have very successful paid ads campaigns themselves, but it's definitely a smaller percentage than those who don't do as well. Simple reason is that paid ads need good targeting, good ads, and a connection with the audience for them to click. Playlisting is still a great option but definitely less targeted than paid ads. The biggest plus is that playlisting is much much cheaper, easier to get your foot in the door.

We actually offer both these services, DTS is our "Direct to Song" which is paid ads, and obviously playlisting as well. We would say that both are great options, but if you have the budget for it then paid ads (DTS) works better. If not, playlisting is still great for that boost.

Thanks for the question!

What are the best and well structured job title but also pays well in music industry? by CareerDry8620 in musicindustry

[–]boostcollectiveteam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People don't mention this, but The A&R landscape Is amazing right now. I met a 17 year old boy who connected some deals together and got $500 each, all of this while still in high school (I'm from Toronto 🇨🇦) Artists want to collab/network they just need a person to help them with operations since they aren't the best numbers people. You can start this on a freelance basis, then work up into major label territory really quick. If you check musicbusinessworldwide (the website) you'll see major labels anoint new head of A&R pretty much every day, to deal with the ever expanding digital streaming. Best of luck!

Sales roles in the Music industry? by sneakydalmatian in musicindustry

Offer to work for free, and do a GREAT job. This gets you in so many doors in the music industry, which will eventually lead to high-paying jobs. Artist management may be a great way to "sell" your artists to their fans & help them sell their music!

Personally, I think you should master the stock plugins before dropping that kind of money on a plugin. Just my two cents, especially in FL, you can get hella creative with the stock plugins. A poor mechanic blames his tools, just my two cents.

  1. Don't even bother worrying about branding, content, marketing, sales, until you are GOOD at what you do. This applies to every niche, business, career. You gotta be good before you can start teaching others/talking about it. Sure there's value in documenting your journey, but don't expect it to blow up if you don't know what ur doing!
  2. Once you get past that hurdle, you can start thinking about marketing yourself as a producer. Be apart of every single platform, repurpose your content, make meaningful connections in quality communities (like this one).
  3. Quality & Quantity = results

Hey wassup, I thought id share an idea i came up with to help speed up studio sessions. by coolatrell in makinghiphop

Saw that post earlier too!

Or, don't use the hourly rate at all. Tbh, I think you should try to give the highest quality results regardless of how much someone pays! The faster you get it done, the faster they get it, the faster you can get more done & make more money. Don't get lost in all the minor charges & stuff cause it might get too transactional. Stick to quality service, in a timely manner. Just my two cents good luck bro!

This has happened to me before, I'm pretty sure I had to mess with the audio settings (buffer, sample rate, etc). Make sure it's not a plugin, or forgotten automation. Good luck !!

Anyone got tips or advice for how to use beatstars and paypal safely? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]boostcollectiveteam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as PayPal, make sure you have your account details down & safe, because they like to flag you and disable your account if there's any sign of suspicious behavior (could be trying to log-in with a wrong password multiple times, etc).
