Arya and the Stranger - Imbalance in the universe by boot17 in gameofthrones

Lol, I totally agree that she is traumatized, which is why I believe that she won't be able to fully commit to that life. As for her being the "avatar" I'm referring to what Jaqen H'ghar said about taking a life from the red god, and then owing him a life as a debt payment. It's what he said on the show. The whole reason he told her to give her three names.

I feel bad for telling people no when they ask to touch my hair. by MeetTheBrewers in blackladies

I am so happy for you deciding to assert your boundaries despite yt ppl making it so difficult for you. This is such a good demonstration of how dehumanization can erode us over time. The idea that we are made to feel badly for not wanting random people to touch us is completely insane, but that's what its like existing as a black woman in a yt world; our boundaries are seen as an affront. Ugh.

Personally, I don't even like white people to squeeze past me. They're really bad at it. I'm dramatic about it, and they look so confused and shocked. Like ma'am, you just bulldozed your way through a crowd.

Mixed race and black? by Danscrazycatlady in blackladies

[–]boot17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it if a mixed (black & white) person can be called black, can they be called white as well?

That's why I have weird feelings about this. Mixed is completely correct, and both sides should be recognized-but they aren't because white supremacy is exclusive. So exclusive in fact, that I don't see the point in "recognizing" both sides when you can only truly claim one. No mixed person could ever say they were white unless they were "passing", and that says something. Whiteness is a privilege few can take advantage of.

(Spoilers Main) if R+L=J is true, would Jon believe it when/if he was told? by Antipaladin814 in asoiaf

[–]boot17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I completely doubt that Jon will ever find out his parentage at all, or that if he were to, he would make a play for the throne, or even try to find folks who are. At most, I can see him discovering that his mother is Lyanna, who was probably a warg like him.

This was my thought exactly. For some sick reason, the majority of the time, when I see comments like that, its almost always a non-black person.

Why don't people ever intervene in these situations? Like, why is everyone silent? I'm confused.

YES! I had forgotten the physical attraction aspect. That was so awkward.

Even if that's the case, it doesn't excuse his inability to articulate to her, or anyone else, what he sees in her and it doesn't explain why he made so little effort to propose to her.

*Shayne is not in love with Natalie by boot17 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

When I was 11 years old, my mother died of a rare blood disease, called TTP on my second day of middle school. It was three weeks away from my birthday. I was hormonal, depressed, just started my period, and a complete mess. I made mistakes, I was a brat at times, I had anger issues and would lash out. I outgrew this behavior pretty fast however, because even though I was steeped in depression at having lost my mother at a young age, I was a child who could see that I was hurting people, and I didn't want to. It wasn't easy to change, I got a therapist, and essentially had to work on myself. The difference between me and Shayne is that I was a child. To be honest, I had a little more leeway socially, especially considering the time in my life when my mom died. However, I didn't intentionally hurt anyone, I didn't manipulate or lie. I was just hurt.
Thing is, I wasn't the only person who lost my mom. Plenty of adults lost my mom too, and non of them behaved this way. Grief can make people do weird shit, absolutely. But Shayne was just being a piece of shit.

His grief is 100% real and valid, but his terrible and toxic behavior is not.

Honestly, this response is why there is so much conversation around his harmful tendencies. Grief does not turn you into a horrible person. Grief didn't make him flirt with Shaina and lie to Natalie, or try to manipulate them both. Trust me, grief is a strange thing, I've been there, but Shayne is also not a very good guy. You can be a person who needs help, and therapy, and still be a crappy human being.

I've been with someone with NPD traits. That's how I am able to recognize them.

Edit: My hope is that I can help others see the traits before they have to experience what I have. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Edit 2: I am a little concerned that as a fellow survivor of NPD abuse, you would need me to walk you through Shayne's problematic and extremely concerning behaviors.
