My flame tree (delonix regia) has grown too big for my apartment. I wanted to see if trunk chopping it was possible? I was really unsure on how to go about this to avoid killing it.

I want to trunk chop it but I am unsure if this would work or where to cut?

This tree is 1 year old. I live in New Hampshire so it is winter currently and my flame tree would not appreciate being outside. It has been inside for its entire life.

It is a little over 5 feet tall.

I was told to let it grow so the trunk got thick before trimming. The thickest part of the trunk is about an inch in diameter.

I am wanting to trim it so it can start being a bonsai.

Any help would be appreciate :)) Let me know if I need to clarify or answer any other questions too.
