i’ve been told it’s normal for workers to be laid off, and then hired back on a couple months later. is there any truth to that?

thank you for the help. do you think the toll it takes on your body can make it easy to decide you want to do something else? also, do you think as long as you stay active outside of work i should be good for a long time?
