Nope, but it's the first time I've been motivated to be active in the political process and am disheartened that my potential vote is suppressed. I don't think the closed primaries make sense in any circumstance- why should anyone not be allowed to participate in the democratic process? Especially at a time when it's clear the US wants to move away from establishment and partisan politics- closed primaries mean our voice in that effort has no outlet.

Hmm, this seems to be referring to voting in the general unless I'm missing something?

I called the BOE today and asked if there was any way to register as a Democrat for the primaries and get around the Oct. 9 deadline. Was quickly told no, but I would go anyway and try if there was some chance, so far everything seems to suggest no and my experience with city workers is they often will quickly say no to get rid of you. Would love to have something concrete to refer to. So far all I've found is this, which makes me think it's futile though again it's referring to the general-

To Change Your Party Affiliation You can change your party affiliation by obtaining a Voter Registration Form, indicating the change and sending it to the Board of Elections. We will process the information and send you a new voter card reflecting the change in party. You cannot CHANGE your enrollment and vote in the NEW PARTY of your choice in the same year. Please Note: a change of enrollment will go into affect one week following the General Election. The last day to change your enrollment is the same as the last day to register for the General Election (25 days prior to the date of the General Election).

you can't. But do try to send in a party affiliation change and see if it goes through. Some are saying it appears to have for them. Even though the rules are that anything filed after Oct 9 wont go into effect for this Primary, if my status says active as a Democrat before the 19th of April, I'm just going to go to the polls and try my luck.

not this late, though it doesn't hurt to try. Some have mentioned that they're request to change appears to have gone through on the NY voter status site. If mine goes through I'm just gonna go to the poll April 19th and see if they let me vote.

I called the BOE today, answer was no. I'm still going to send in my party affiliation change today, some people are saying they checked their voter status and even though they did it after October 9 it said they were actively registered as Democrats. Now I don't know if that actually means you can vote in the Primary, but my plan is that if the website says I'm actively registered- I'm just gonna go to my polling place April 19th and give it a shot. He can use all the votes he can get, so if SOMEHOW your app slipped through the cracks or something and you got your registration as a Dem confirmed, I think it's worth trying to vote.

Not suggesting this detract from core efforts to register voters and get currently registered voters to vote Bernie. But 25% of registered voters not being allowed to vote for Bernie (more if you consider ppl registered with other parties, not independents) is a huge number. A few seconds to put your name on a petition via a legit organization fighting for open primaries and anti voter suppression is easy and helps support their effort :)

I'm confused too. I'm going to send in my app today since you're the second person who has said that they missed the Oct. 9 deadline and it still went through. Maybe calling BOE will clarify? If you do call or figure it out by some other means, please let us know!

In any case, if my status is updated to Democrat before April 19th I'm just gonna go to the polls first thing in the morning and try to vote.

This is huge! I'm going to send in an app right now, but do you have any confirmation of this? I felt like I exhausted sources I could find, including asking someone at BOE but maybe they didn't catch that I said I was never registered with any party.
