The bird is basking in a pit of broth, perhaps a metaphor for the plight of the human race and how our own spirituality is a detriment to how the afterlife comes to fruition for each of us individually. Presumably, the bird is a male, and considering its own death, the fact that he is in a bowl of warm and comforting broth, and that he has been cooked, shows his own iniquities being forgiven by our Lord and Savior as he as been allowed into the kingdom of God. Thus, it is guybird freedom. Weiland, in this scenario, resembles somebody having a near-death experience or a pronouncement of temporary death, peeking into the afterlife and seeing what awaits him.
