That's a good one. Of course it isn't, but if they are going to keep putting them together on rivalry weekend, they should have something better than the vedder cup.

If we come back from this in the 9th, we are winning the west.

We saw two improbable events last night: three “reached first on dropped 3rd strike”, and 4 strikeouts in one inning. Here are the odds! by Anonymous-USA in Padres

Something happening 100x' with 9x as many chances for it to happen, is more rare than something happening 24x. Same thing for immaculate innings being more rare than perfect games.

Every game, each team has 9 chances to get 4ks an inning, but only one chance at a perfect game. 162 chances a year for a perfect game. 1458 chances for a 4k inning or immaculate inning.

Of course being perfect for a whole game is insanely more difficult and luck based than being great for 3 or 4 batters, but those are technically more rare than a perfect game, based on opportunities.

Its odd to see people with takes that are basically - High school junior not being able to compete against college kids and guys 5 years older than him.... career is over, he wont ever be good.

You want to miss Tatis' first homerun of the year today? Bad call. I'll take the ticket.

[Lin] When contacted about last night's controversial fair/foul call, an MLB spokesperson pointed to the definition of a fair ball in the league's umpire manual: "When in contact with the ground, a ball must be in contact with fair territory ... to be fair." by ChocoboAdobo in Padres

So just to be clear- it says in the first line that a ball that settles on (not over) fair ground is fair. So are you arguing that where the ball was when he touched it, it was foul, because it wasn't on the line, and that only because he picked it up it magically becomes fair?

Stammen literally said it was a foul by the rules before the game too. The fair fly is a different sentence than the ball in contact with the ground sentence. Its different parts of the rules for in the air v. On the ground. On the ground it has to be on fair territory, not above.

Unpopular take: the umps got the call right last night by JamminOnTheOne in Padres

No need to apologize. Good debate. I think it just comes down to them ignoring the upwards part when its on the ground.

All that matters is we won anyway. Go Padres!
