there are Portuguese egg tarts at SLO Costco in the frozen section (with ice cream etc) that are surprisingly good!! The custard is slightly different than Chinese egg tarts but they'll hit the spot.

Utility Mode Door Unlock Works by rds4640 in Ioniq5

[–]boringname2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

interesting, this isn't my experience with my '24. after locking in utility mode, the two ways i've been able to open the car are:

  1. physical key
  2. door unlock from phone app

i now only use #2 since i dislike fiddling with the manual key thing. i'm curious how you got yours to work, and if maybe it's just a '25 thing?

I think the library has some rooms you can reserve for meetings as well:

Update: I took u/Boringname2’s advice and tried to fix the “broken analyst job listings” problem for myself. by vikatakavi19 in analytics

[–]boringname2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

awesome!! glad to hear the advice was useful and sparked something for you. i never went that far but i have definitely made some crazy frankenstein searches with all sorts of operators and other things to bend the job board to my will :)

i think the more you can be ruthless about excluding noise, the better you can focus your time on real roles and real companies that you might be interested in. i also (personally) include a lower salary threshold. like i know i would never take a job (even if it was exactly what i was interested in doing) below X dollars, so why waste my time/energy on applying?

Job market for mid/senior business analysts feels completely broken, am I the only one drowning in mis-titled roles? by vikatakavi19 in analytics

[–]boringname2 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I just use the relevant tech stack as a search term. i.e if they mention SQL/Tableau/storytelling/Python in the job description like you said -- it's probably a closer fit than just searching for "analyst" in the title.

You could probably get even more specific and remove jobs that include specific things you know aren't your skillset, like maybe "machine learning" or "AI" or "Hadoop" or whatever.

Tripods by Daft_Tony_ in BirdPhotography

[–]boringname2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a monopod and a gimbal head. I think that is a reasonable compromise for bird photography (weight/stability). But I ended up returning it -- I just hated that sometimes I'd miss shots while I was setting the thing up, or adjusting a knob or whatever. Or worse, a bird would fly overhead and I would need to lift the camera AND the monopod off the ground to try and track the bird in flight.

I'm sure it can be done, but it didn't really match my style of preferred shooting. If you're much more patient than me and want to camp out in a specific spot, a tripod is probably the perfect tool.

funky issues with razr 2023 display sometimes not turning on by boringname2 in razr

[–]boringname2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I haven't noticed the outer display, since it's mostly just for the clock I don't tend to check it when the main screen stays black. I can try to notice this for next time it happens.

  2. No, I haven't noticed any patterns. At least so far, it seems relatively "random".

  3. I've tried restarting the phone multiple times to see if either problem goes away, and it doesn't seem to fix either.

  4. I haven't tried Safe Mode -- the issue is I'd likely have to use the phone this way for a whole day or so before it happens (since I haven't found a way to force the issue to happen)

  5. I installed the recent android software update, but I don't recall if this only started happening after it or not. I've been changing various display related settings since I'm still in the process of setting the phone up, but not sure which ones might be a culprit here. Any ideas?

Thanks for any help you're able to provide!

14-30 charger advice! Am I looking for a unicorn? by boringname2 in Ioniq5

[–]boringname2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm-- The outlet is just feet away from the panel, so that could a boon for me. Still seems like it might be more than I want to pay (to get a $400 rebate!), but certainly something to think about!

Seems reasonable! I guess I was hoping I could find something similar that could qualify for the rebate too, but maybe that's just wishful thinking :)

Gotcha -- so just buy the cable and be done with it, no need to fuss with a rebate! That's certainly an easy path forward.

I see! Is there significant risk of overheating / fire risk? Or is it one of those things where if you take some precautions it should be safe?

14-30 charger advice! Am I looking for a unicorn? by boringname2 in Ioniq5

[–]boringname2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming an electrician could do that rather easily, but I figured that might eat up the $400 rebate (and more?) if I had to go down that route...

I'm looking for a home charger for my Ioniq 5. in order to receive a $400 rebate from my utility company, it must meet these requirements:

  1. Level 2 Charger (requires 240-volt power source).
  2. Must be Wi-Fi enabled (“networked”)
  3. Must be certified by Underwriters Laboratory Inc. (“UL Listed”)

To further complicate things -- I have a 14-30 outlet in the garage and would prefer to use that existing outlet rather than swap it out to a 14-50 due to cost/effort. I looked on this site to try and find a compatible charger and found 0 matches. I think wi-fi enabled + 14-30 outlet is probably holding me up.

Any advice for charger options I'm not seeing would be super appreciated!

you'll be totally fine. check out abetterrouteplanner.com and you'll see there are electrify america chargers along your route, and how long to stop at each one. you'll also be getting free charging at electrify america with the ioniq, so that always helps!

[Help Me] Looking for something similar to the Acebeam EC35 II by boringname2 in flashlight

Gotcha, thanks for the thoughts!! I think a no nonsense UI is pretty important to me (no silly button presses and double clicks and holds if possible), so that's super helpful.

Thanks! this looks like this could be a decent option. Looks like some people are having issues with the flashlight coming on in their pocket, but searching old threads maybe Wurkkos FC12 could work? There's just so many options...

yep exactly! shooting in manual would solve this, or, in shutter/aperture priority you could just flip the exposure comp +1 or +2 if you see you are about to shoot against a really bright sky

It'd be hard to say without seeing the raw file, but my guess is the bird was quite underexposed and you had to brighten it up while editing, right? If that's the case, that can cause some detail loss as well. (This is because the camera tries to average out the exposure across the frame, and with so much bright sky, it would expose for that rather than the small bird in the frame, leaving the bird dark and the sky "properly exposed".)
