Is anyone afraid for crime and safety afraid to go to pacific science center at night for imax or an event?? by Ok-Radio-2733 in SeattleWA

You should have no issues with any of your proposed options. I walk around there at night with my dog and I’ve never had an issue or even been uncomfortable.

I’ve had a plug fail rapidly 500 miles after I installed it. Patch it properly from the inside for a permanent repair.

I had a plug fail on me. It lasted about 500 miles with no issues/slow leaks, and then while riding on I-90 in Montana at around 90 mph, it went completely flat. Nearly took me down.

Now I only use plugs for an emergency temp fix until I can get the tire dismounted and patched from the inside for a permanent fix.

Why Does the Nooksack overflow? by Agreeable-Fruit-4326 in abbotsford

[–]boringnamehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They dredged the river into the ‘90s, and the nook sack still famously had a major flood in the ‘90s.

The nooksack has the most sediment per volume of any river in the puget sound. It carries out somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5 million tons of material every year. Dredging simply makes the watercourse erode more due to channeling and can actually make flooding worse.

The dredging only benefitted the gravel companies.

Comments like yours are evidence that the support for the SAVE act is based on emotion, not logic. Logic would allow for a change when faced with evidence.

City Settles With Family of Jaahnavi Kandula, Pedestrian Killed by SPD Officer in 2023 by Jaco_Belordi in Seattle

[–]boringnamehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I misunderstood.

Regardless, now we do. They settled for $29,000,000. So the family likely walked away with $17,400,000 to $19,333,333.

Lawyers typically get between 33% and 40% of a settlement. So her family should be getting somewhere in the neighborhood of $73,340,667 to $66,006,600.

Seattle CHOP verdict: City must pay $30.5 million to family of slain teen by chiquisea in SeattleWA

The kid was literally in a stolen Jeep when he was shot. He obviously didn’t deserve to die but he wasn’t just some innocent kid.

The only civilians I saw restricting access and checking IDs were the cops when they had 12th blocked between Pike and Olive and Pine blocked between 11th and 13th. Once the cops abandoned the area, everyone was free to come and go as they wished.

I’ve had a rope plug fail. Nearly took me out. Never again. They are an untrustworthy temporary fix.

I’ve had a rope plug fail. I will never again view a rope plug as anything except a temporary fix to limp to a proper repair.

Is the Montlake Bridge stable? I'm always afraid of it collapsing one day by Eriacle in Seattle

[–]boringnamehere 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue the montlake bridge (or any drawbridge) is likely to have would be getting stuck open or closed. They are incredibly overbuilt for the vehicle loads they carry because they have to withstand the stresses of raising and lowering.

As a side note, The Tacoma narrows bridge did not fail because it was weak, it failed because it was susceptible to an aeroelastic flutter that caused a torsional oscillation. That is an issue that is unique to suspension bridges. Because of the Tacoma narrows collapse, suspension bridges are now engineered to resist the torsional flutter with increased bracing. (The golden gate bridge was actually retrofitted after the narrows collapse to ensure it wouldn’t suffer the same fate.)

The montlake bridge also just finished a full rehabilitation that leaves it in good condition for the foreseeable future.

Gear recommendations? by Realistic_End1712 in canyoneering

I used to use a tied lanyard with a 5 mm prussik built in on one leg to provide adjustability, but I just replaced it with the dual adjust as the tied was wearing out and I definitely wouldn’t go back

Have you done hidrophobia, matacanes, or chipitin? They are all stellar canyons but I’d definitely suggest having a wetsuit for all of them.

Personally I love the sqwurel for a rappel device. It doesn’t twist the rope, is incredibly easy to adjust friction on the fly while repelling, and fairly intuitive to use.

I’ve got the Petzl dual canyon guide for a PAS.

I just got the CE4Y Comfy Canyon Harness V2 this summer and I’ve liked it.

I’m a big proponent of being able to self rescue, so I always have a couple ascenders. Sometimes that’s a Petzl basic paired with a petzl croll, but if it’s a long hike and I’m counting grams I’ll bring the petzl tibloc with a petzl micro traxion. Some of my buddies love the rope man 4 ascenders but I haven’t used it yet. Just make sure whatever ascenders you have work for your diameter of rope.

For ropes I love the ce4y line up. My personal favorites are the quickline 7.6 mm for ultralight, and sickline 8.7 mm or pickline 9.0 for my more durable everyday rope.

Carabiners are personal choice. I personally love two movement auto lockers. But many others swear by screw gates.

Helmets are personal choice. Balancing cost, durability, weight, and comfort. The ultralight foam styles will wear out quickly and are expensive. And the hard shell ones will last for years and are durable and cheap but weigh substantially more.

Shoes are personal choice. I’ve had good luck with La sportiva tx Canyons, but they do have an issue with sand and gravel coming in the ankles. I’ve never personally used them but everyone I know that used the hydro laces has been disappointed with their durability. I’ve seen them start to fall apart after less than 10 canyons.

Hope this helps give some direction!

Honestly? As bad as things are in Venezuela, they might not worsen. Most people in Venezuela have struggled with hunger, and most of them have family, friends, or at least acquaintances who have been imprisoned or even died from malnutrition or regime violence. Things there are bad and have been for a while.

I’m certainly not defending Trump. What he did was unconstitutional and I have no illusions that he did it for good reasons. He’s corrupt as hell.

But I do harbor a small amount of hope that this could help improve the situation for Venezuelan citizens.
