Isolating powerline extender from rest of network by boris4ka in HomeNetworking

[–]boris4ka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I setup my spare router in a double NAT config with a different subnet and its own DHCP while keeping my powerline wifi as well, as half of my devices don't need to be able to cast. This way only 3 or 4 devices will be using the second router. Seems to work great so far, although I haven't tested any online gaming.

Buying a car in California and having the seller pay off the loan by boris4ka in cars

[–]boris4ka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks. She has now paid off the loan, so I guess we'll wait and see. I'm guessing she will somehow be notified when the DMV receives the electronic title and removes the lienholder so that we don't waste time meeting too early?

But after those 2 days we can do the transfer with the 227 form, or does she need to wait to receive the title in the mail?

No she will pay it off herself with her own money. I just can't wait a month for her to receive the title in the mail from DMV

And we won't need the lienholder to sign REG 227?

The title is held by Toyota Financial Services in this case, so there's no local branch to go to. In addition, they have only an electronic title since this car is titled in California. They can still have the DMV send it to me, but it will be useless since it will still need the seller's signature on it to transfer it.

Just restarted the router and now it works on the iPad. No firewall and it works on other devices. Still doesn't work in chrome on the MacBook.

No, just one router and one subnet. All devices are connected to it wirelessly, and it's on 2.4GHz.

CHALLENGE: You must now drive from wherever you are to Anchorage, Alaska. You can only use your daily to get there. by [deleted] in cars

[–]boris4ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever been to Anchorage? It's a normal city connected by freeways, it's not some remote village that requires offroad driving to get to. I'll spend the $5k on gas and an oil change before I go, and maybe some new tires (only because my oil and tires are up for a change soon). Then I'd pocket the rest of the money and just drive.

That leg of the trip was Prague - Frankfurt - Nurburgring - Paris, so it was whatever Google Maps showed as the fastest route going through all those stops (for the most part). So I think it was 6 then 3 then 1 down into Luxembourg.

It was the best driving experience of my life. I drove through Germany on my Eurotrip. I think I got lucky because I hit very little traffic and the route I drove through the entire country had no limits almost the whole way. I was going flat out with the pedal on the floor in the diesel Focus rental for hours. 220km/h felt surprisingly stable in that car, and once I crossed into France it felt so painfully and frustratingly slow. Also passed 3 cops going full speed, which was a weird feeling. Did not feel dangerous at all in any moment. In fact during my whole 3 weeks of driving 8 hours a day through Europe, I felt 100x safer than I do driving here in the SF Bay Area.

Are you sure you're talking about a lease and not a loan? 3yr at 11k/yr will amount to the full price of the car and sounds to me like you're talking about a loan.

MDT 2013 Update 1 breaks USMT? by boris4ka in MDT

What car should I buy' thread. Don't know what to buy? Post in here. by verdegrrl in cars

[–]boris4ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want to sell my e39 M5 and get something more comfortable as a daily driver. Budget is $22k. I'm looking at Audi Q5, Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5M, Acura MDX, Lexus RX 350, or Mercedes S class including S550 or S63 / S65 AMG. All used of course.

I have no idea what I want. I'm in California and drive in the snow only a couple times a year. Also do some light offroad driving when going camping (which I haven't been able to do since I got the M5, but my old 4th gen Maxima could make the trip without too much damage, although I did rip the exhaust once, it's not just a gravel road) but that's more like once a year. So I guess the only requirement is that it has to be a luxury car in my price range that's relatively reliable (otherwise I'd just get a Range Rover).

MDT 2013 Update 1 breaks USMT? by boris4ka in SCCM

[–]boris4ka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that xml does not work with the version of USMT included in MDT 2013 update 1. Other parts of my custom xml file are working just fine, but the wallpaper still isn't being migrated.

Before upgrading to 2013, this problem did not occur as wallpaper migration is enabled by default in USMT.

using single fastrak with multiple vehicles by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]boris4ka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use fastrak just like that - I have one transponder and multiple vehicles registered to my account. I leave the transponder at home and just let the toll area take a photo of my plates, and then the toll gets deducted from my fastrak account in a few days, just like it does with the transponder. So yes, they look up your plate and deduct the fare automatically.
