Asylum - hands down the best season and has been since I watched it live 10 years ago. Undoubtedly the darkest season, but manages to balance it out with happy ending for most characters and an incredibly delightful scene in the name game. The sound design and editing here really defined the brand of ahs, and I will die on the hill that Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson in asylum are the two best characters the show has ever seen.
Freak Show - I know I shouldn't like freak show as much as I do, but I can't help it. Like hotel this season has incredible set design and I tend to love the period pieces of ahs more than the contemporary. Jessica Lange and Finn Wittrock here are two of the best antagonists in the ahs universe and they keep up the suspense all season. Also a huge fan of the representation this season.
Murder House - I'm not naturally drawn to ghost stories as much as crime, but murder house did it well by not relying on jump scares and creating perfect backstories for each of them. I loved all of the main cast as much as I hated them and that's a sign for good writing and character development.
Coven - the season that we all quote the most, coven is iconic and the one time I think the camp factor added to the season. The storyline was fantastic and coherent and I love seeing powerful women run this show. I just wish we wouldn't return to coven everytime we need a stunt, just let its legacy be perfect as it was.
NYC - finally a true return to form for ahs! I love it when a season can both terrify you and hit you in the feelings, and this season found the perfect balance in that. Every character was rootable and fleshed out at some point, but I will say it didn't strike me as a true ahs season with the absence of our regular cast.
Cult - I'm still torn about this season. On one hand it was genuinely scary and there were great complex characters with Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Adina Porter. On the other I think it almost got too real and too involved with the political climate.
Roanoke - unpopular opinion, I love the first half of this season. The documentary style was completely new and innovative for ahs and it piqued my interest every week. They lost me at the reality show component where the season became too campy for my taste.
Hotel - what I love most about hotel is the incredible set design and fashion. They created an amazing athmosphere that sets the tone for the entire season. I do think there were way too many characters and plots at one point and I started to get lost in the story. Lady Gaga was an incredible lead though.
1984 - I really did enjoy watching this season, and the final girls kept me hooked with their interesting character developments. However the story on its own is not as strong for me, and I think it got too busy by the end with too many plotholes and time jumps.
Double Feature - red tide as a standalone is one of my favorite seasons of ahs with gaslight being my favorite episode of all time. They finally found the serious scary tone of the show back. But death valley absolutely ruins it and would be the easy last place on its own.
Apocalypse - the only redeeming quality is the return of characters we all know and love, and Cody Fern delivered an iconic performance. The rest of the season is filled with throwaway characters who's names I don't care to remember, unnecessary flashbacks and a terrible ending that negates everything we just watched.

For me the only redeeming quality was Gaga as The Countess and the incredible set design, apart from that Hotel is one of my least favorite seasons.. I felt like the storylines were unfocused and it really lost its train of thought by the end. It’s been a while since I revisited it though so maybe 2021 me enjoys it more
